It's been a rather amazing day and it's not even over.
History was made today with the swearing in of the first African-American President - Barack Obama. It was really interesting to watch it live on TV especially since it was so damn cold! The TV people said it was 20 degrees in DC and it sure looked like it. I know it was cold enough here when I was outside.
While the world watched Washington DC, I spent most of the day outside working in the backyard. Emma had dug about half a dozen holes in the backyard and Dad was very upset. Mom told me yesterday that if her digging habit isn't stopped, she might have to go to a new home. I really don't want that to happen. Everyone else seems to simply tolerate Emma, but I adore her. She's really become my dog and my responsibility and I really don't want her to go.
On the advice of some of the folks over at dogsintraining, I created a space for Emma where it is okay to dig. I dug up some of Dad's compost pit and used the dirt and muck to fill in the holes where Emma had dug. I bought a spray that is supposed to keep dogs from digging and with ingredients like garlic extract and clove extract, it will at least keep her away from those spots.
There's still a bit of work to do in the yard but I'm taking it a step at a time. Emma is sleeping beside me now on the sofa so I guess I wore her out too! *laughs*
