The songs John Barrowman has chosen for his new CD so far, with videos

Mar 07, 2014 22:50

Every few days, John does post a new video to his pledge page, singing a bit of a song he chose for his new album. But not everyone can watch them, they are only visible in full if you already have pledged. But the videos also get posted to the JB youtube channel, so I made a list of all the ones we have so far. There is the pledge video, and also ( Read more... )

Just FYI, You Raise Me Up isn't actually Westlife's song, they just did a cover of it. It's more popular in the U.S. as a cover by Josh Groban (whom I would marry for his voice, not gonna lie...), and I'm not sure who the original artist is! Not that it matters particularly, I just thought you might be interested. :)

Also I am so excited he's doing Loch Lomond, which I have loved since I first heard it in this old movie about a cat called Thomasina in Scotland, that I watched over and over when I was little. :D

You're absolutely right. With some songs, it is hard to say who was the first that sang it, but sometimes also the cover becomes more well-known than the original. I think this was the case with "Mad World" for example?

I only know Josh Groban since he once was in a "Glee" episode right? Afterwards I looked it up, thinking, this guy must be famous ;) Then again, I really don't know much about modern music. That's why I love that John introduces me to so many great songs. The only one of these new ones I did not know yet is the one from Celine Dion, but I already have an earworm from it.

Ever since he posted that first picture of him trying to find inspiration at Loch Lomond, I was singing this song in my head so I am also very happy he added it to this album! It's really coming greatly together.

Oh yes, it took me the longest time before I even realized that Mad World was a cover!

Josh Groban was on Glee, yes. He's actually quite funny! I had a friend who adored him so when I was in a store once and saw a couple of his CDs on sale, I bought one, and then I went back and bought the other because I was hooked. :D My mom now loves him as well because of his version of 'O Holy Night' that gets played on the radio around Christmas.

I'll have to check this song out then. I adore "Oh holy night". I heard it many years ago for the first time from a band you might not know, the Kelly Family. I fell in love with it immediately.

John has also sung it at one of the Christmas concerts with the BBC orchestra for the BBC radio: http://ex.fm/song/4nzkz/None

I hope he does a Christmas album one day.

I do as well! I already knew Captain Jack Harkness, but I only became a JB fan once I found out about his multiple other talents and all the TV shows and singing and dancing... I am a sucker for that. And great song choices so far! Personally I hope for this one to be included, it was my favourite from the last tour: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5tZCi5AkKDg

Do you know the original? I didn't.

Oh I like that! (Also love his sparkely shirt xD) I don't know the original, but I like JB's version of it quite a lot. xD

It's one of those songs everyone already has sung it seems, including Don Mclean, Perry Como and Elvis Presley. No idea who was first.

After John sang the song in Cardiff in 2011, this happened next - watch it, it is the cutest thing ever "awwww": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vg28da4hiis

Check the list again, I updated it with a few more songs he has revealed in the meantime.

When I was in the studio a few days ago, I saw him recording "Loch Lomond", "Listen to the music", "Mandy" and "Hollywood". Especially "Loch Lomond" and "Mandy" were very emotional and he put all of his soul into it. With the other two, he was just dancing around happily. The new CD will be amazing. I can't wait for it.
