The Starfury "Elementary" convention which actually was a "Sherlock" Convention was a wonderful opportunity to have a look at the creativity of fans. The first evening also the "Cycling Awards" ceremony took place at the hotel, and we saw lots of women in long gowns and men in tuxes and also Scotsmen in kilts. I'm not sure what those thought of all ( Read more... )

This con took place in Birmingham, in a hotel I have been to twice before for other cons. I know the way there from the airport well ;) And you also might have seen the adventures of the Doctor in Birmingham which I posted a few days ago?

I would have done a "Weee! I am going to meet Benedict Cumberbatch!" post but he was only announced five weeks ago and after we all bought our tickets the next day Sue Vertigo which is the producer of "Sherlock" and the wife of Moffat tweeted that she does not know anything about it. And then it seemed it was not legit but we all know Sean never announces a guest without a contract. It seems in that case not everyone knew everything and then it took two more weeks to seal the deal for real. After that I did not want to write anything about it anymore, as a lot of bad stuff happened in the meantime in the internet :(

But it was a great con and you don't hear any bad word about it now.

No, I am never in costume ;) It's not my kind of thing. I have bought a few Doctor Who and Torchwood shirts now, God help me (never thought I'd do that but some were so nice I could no resist) but I don't own any Sherlock shirts. I saw a lot of people with TARDIS dresses as well though, oh and some had dresses which looked like the wallpaper of the Baker Street! Did I mention that above? If not, I should.

It has been announced now by Massive Events / Showmasters that there will be an official Sherlock convention taking place later in the year, in both the UK and the US. No date is set yet and no stars announced though. You can follow news about it here: http://massiveevents.co.uk/sherlocked/

Who knows, maybe you get lucky as well! I will write a little report about the panel also. Everyone treated Benedict well, I don't see why he should not do more cons in the future. I think he liked it.

If you like, you already can read all the Q & A from Benedict here: http://www.benedictcumberbatch.co.uk/interviews/benedict-cumberbatch-qa-starfury-events/

This is so complete that I won't write it all down again, but I will write a bit more about the others.
