Detailed report of Panto "Jack and the Beanstalk" with John & Greg Barrowman in Glasgow

Jan 08, 2013 00:34

So it happened that the first Panto I ever saw was with a Barrowman, but not THE Barrowman. Surely you all heard by now that on Friday afternoon John fell off a (real!) horse during the show, had to be taken to hospital and got replaced by (the son of) his cousin. I already wrote a bit and posted a picture of me with Greg Barrowman hereStill we all ( Read more... )

You're welcome! I was so excited, I had to get it all out of my head anyway before I was able to sleep.

Which one did he do in 2008? And where was it? Wasn't he in Birmingham once? I first learnt that he sings in September 2009 and I think the first one I heard about was "Robin Hood" but back then I wasn't as enthusiastic to travel so far (so I missed "La Cage Aux Folles" which I still regret).

The next yeat it was "Alladin" and I must admit I don't care much for this story so I was not interested either. After reading a report from someone else about last year's "Robinson Crusoe" (and seeing some clips on Youtube) I regret not having gone by then, as it sounds hilarious as well. Now I am also someone who tries to convince all his friends to go ;) You really have to see for yourself, before I was not sure if I'd really like it.

So please tell me, which ones have you seen with him, and can I find reports or pictures in your journal? Was there also a cow involved? I admit, the cow was the reason I was going LOL How did you like the pictures of it? Isn't she cuuuuuute? I want one like that on my balkony LOL

First he said we shall not buy tickets yet as he hasn't made up his mind yet. Guess he does not know, what with filming "Arrow" and everything. But at the end they also said they would love to be back (although I also somewhere read that Janette wasn't so sure, I mean, she's ancient...)

I admit I would have been very gutted if I had seen all four shows with Greg. But the way it turned out I am happy that we got a chance to see him as well. When he becomes famous in 30 years or so I can say I have been there at the beginning ;)

His voice is much different of course, higher and also younger. Not the typical JB sound. But the way he was sometimes standing and his body language, from the side he really looked like John! The family genes are definitely there. As I just learnt, he is acutally doing another show at the moment, so I have no idea how they managed to get him out of there.

Stepping in at the middle of the performance (after John got hurt) can't be easy. The horse bit was near the beginning. But there's no way John could have done the "12 days of Christmas" that day.

As I said in a reply somewhere else, the picture happened on Saturday night and now I have mixed emotions whether he was in much pain and rather should just have been gone. We would all have understood if he did, but he stayed, much to my surprise.

Hope to see you next time then! I also plan to go to Cardiff if there is another tour this year. He might tell us more about the horse then. He's good at telling such stories.

The first panto I saw was in Birmingham, and yes it was Alladin. Trust me, it doesn't matter what story is being told, if John Barrowman is involved it's going to be hilarious! No, there wasn't a cow. I think the one you saw is the only one with a cow. I wish I could have been there for it!

The 2008 performance was the first time I ever saw John perform, and it's the experience that turned me into the devoted fan I am today. Before that he was just "that guy on Torchwood and Doctor Who" to me. I needed to see him live to see the true extent of his talent, and I was astounded at how well he treated the fans at the stage door.

Here is a link to my LJ entry about that experience: http://cowgrrl.livejournal.com/311966.html
