Star Trek: Comparison of the Kirks

Dec 15, 2018 19:32

If you ever wondered about the difference between the several Kirks that I own - Playmates, Mezco Toyz, Diamond Select Toys and McFarlane Toys - I just made a Tumblr Post explaining it all in detail, with many more pictures:

I think the first one looks most like Kirk, the others not so much. Though I can see they are better made and have more movement, which is good!

Apparently Shatner has a face that a lot of people have struggled with and it's very hard to get right. The best Kirk is no doubt the 1:6 scale QMX one.

I think the first one looks most like KirkThe small one? He does look like Kirk, but in my eyes a bit young, as if he was fresh from the academy. And if you look at the Playmate figures in general, all of them together, you'll see that facial features are exaggerated, which gives them a comical look, and that's what I don't like about them. But you certainly can see who it's supposed to be ( ... )

Spock's hands are definitely too big, and I think you're right about Bones' head being a bit big too! I can see how the shiny plastic would be a problem for photographs.

And lol at Shatner's face being difficult! I wonder if anyone has told him that! I'm sure he'd find it amusing! :D

No idea! But I know that when the 1:6 scale QMX Kirk went to his people for approval apparently it came back very quickly and there were no demands for any changes, so they (he) really must have liked it.

Thank you! I forgot one, the Mego Kirk. I don't own him but this is what he looks like: https://vintageactionfigures.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/10/star-trek-1974-mego-kirk-3-band-var.jpg

Neat!

It's like, I can see the Shatner resemblance in all of their faces, it's clear who they are, but none of them really look like him.

I should have added the Mego Kirk. I don't own him but how about this one?

This is what fans had for almost 50 years! Then Nanjin came and gave us the best Kirk ever. The 1:6 scale QMX one is still the best one, hands down.

Oh, my! I dunno if it's just that the shoulders are kind of weak but the head looks too big for him. How does he scale with your lineup above, do you know?

He is 8". My QMX Kirk is 12".

The ones in my picture - the smallest one is 3,75" I guess and the others between 6" and 7". So he would be a bit bigger than those.

There are also 12" Playmates figures that don't look too bad. I guess I would have ended up getting them if the others hadn't come around. Here is Bones as an example: https://i.pinimg.com/736x/b3/79/98/b37998b2879378f958d3442a8542c93d--fashion-dolls-star-trek.jpg
