Hauls: Mega Bloks or: When adults become children again

Jun 09, 2016 21:46

Not that I ever was adult to begin with...

I had planned to save some money after the recent expensive convention and "Star Trek Continues" shopping spree, but then I saw this and simply couldn't resist!

My Mega Bloks parcel arrived today! And it's simply awesome. I started building right away. See the cut for more pictures.

More awesomeness behind the cut! )

star trek, hauls

Being an adult is overrated. The only good thing about it is that we can afford to buy our own toys XD

EXACTLY! You hit the nail on the head! I still remember vividly how I begged my mother to buy me an African village with African huts and African figures. It was all so cute! We saw it in a shop once. She told me later that she had went back to buy it but it had been gone by then. I've never seen it again since. I have no idea who made it or what name even to search for. I used to have little rubbery Indians and Cowboys as a child, but this seems not to be very common. If I ever stumble about it one day, I'll SO buy it!

Now, about the affording part... LOL I really wanted to save some money after the convention, which had been expensive, and my bank account is a little in the red. But how could I resist this one? Seriously. There will be more sets coming out. I intend to buy them all. Great stuff! Can't wait to get home from work today to finish building.

Yeah, I wanted a Voltron toy as a kid, and my parents wouldn't buy one for me. Then when I was older, I saw one at a garage sale and bought it straight away!

I won't even pretend I know what Voltron is, sorry ;) But it's great that you finally were able to get one, and on a garage sale where it probably didn't cost much, even better!

Out of nostalgy, I recently went to ebay to see if I could find that dollhouse TV which lights up that I had as a kid but was broken and so got thrown away. I found it and bought it: http://dieastra.livejournal.com/189822.html

I also read once that a lot of people try to find their childhood books they have as a nice memory. Thankfully I never threw mine away ;)

Ah, Voltron was a Japanese anime series that was dubbed into English and shown on tv here in Australia. It came out around the same time as Astroboy and Battle of the Planets, if you've heard of those.

Yeah, I did a quick google search and saw a picture. And from what I have seen in your LJ so far, I suspected as much.

But I really have no anime knowledge at all, sorry. I've never watched any cartoons, anime or otherwise. My only connection in the recent months is through Vic Mignogna, who voices a lot of them and is quite famous for it, but I don't think I'll start watching them just because of his voice. In German TV everything is dubbed German anyway, so it would be a hassle to get.

I do like the anime songs he sings though. Do you know them?

Brothers (from Full Metal Alchemist): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FfAEMal84ag

Soldier A (he wrote this one after just goofing around in the studio): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a6V3Rj6KH5U

I like the melody of the first one, and the second one is really funny ;)

No, I haven't heard them. I'm one of those fans who only likes subtitles, so I never listen to the English dubs, lol

I did listen to a couple of German anime dubs, just to see what they were like, and they sounded even odder than the English ones, lol

Heh, funnily enough, at the weekend I watched my first animé! So far I got the impression - at least with those TV series - that they are mostly aimed at teenagers, and the heroes are also teenagers? And I feel too old for that.

Also in the swimming video Vic recently did, where his swimming was intercut with the animé characters swimming, and they were just boys.

But while looking through my TV channels on Sunday, I stumbled about a Japanese animated movie, about a guy who wanted to construct planes ever since he was a little boy and finally became an engineer and also went to Germany to study how they did their planes (must have been before the war). So I've watched that a little bit and I liked it. As it was more technical and "adult", if you know what I mean?

It really depends which series you watch. There are many aimed at adults, but most of them don't end up on international tv since they (usually) contain violence and/ or sex.

It sounds like it could have been 'When the Wind Rises'

Yep, that's the one! I only watched a bit in the middle, as I had missed the beginning and thought I should do it properly one day.
