Just like the original Stargate SG-1 is the favourite of all the others for me. The more I watch of Trek, the more similarities I see!

For example, the episode with the Horla. We often had similar themes in Stargate, with Jack, being the soldier, wanting to shoot things, and Daniel trying to protect them. I was fascinated by their discussions, as often in a way both were right, and you could not decide who was right and who was wrong. Jack often begged "Give me another option".

Both Kirk and Jack are great leaders, doing everything they need to protect their teams. I also remember (haven't seen it again yet) that there is an episode where Kirk is stranded on a planet and has to live a simple life. An episode with that theme is my favourite because poor Jack was so sad that he could not go home again, and it was hard for him to adjust. But after three months, he finally had - and then they came and got him. He wasn't entirely happy then either.

Or the Trek episode with Kirk coming to a planet, thinking he needs to protect the innocent people from the Klingons, and in the end it turns out they are more powerful than you thought. We had a very similar episode as well. The aliens were advanced, but chose not to show it and not to interfere with others.

And of course in Stargate we also have the alien on the team (Teal'c) who does not make many words (and often just cocks one eyebrow) yet says so much with his face and it is often very humorous. The actor they cast for this is the total opposite, he likes a laugh and it must have been really hard to play this ;)

I keep forgetting - have you ever watched Stargate? If not, you probably should try it, I think you would like it too. A wonderful team and wonderful actors who really have a relationship with each other (the fourth is Sam Carter, she is both a phycisist and a soldier, and a great role model for women). She does all the techno babble on the show and usually gets them out of tight spots with her skills.

The reason why I started with Star Trek right now - I had seen the second JJ Abrams movie a few weeks ago and did not like it at all. It felt so cold, no emotions, the actors did not touch me. I wanted real men, and relationships. I love especially the Kirk/McCoy scenes. They are awesome.

When I came to the Doctor Who and Torchwood fandom I discovered all my Stargate friends were already there, so if one likes one show, they should like the other as well. I especially appreciate the humor at times. But it is no comedy. Jack is a very unusual leader and likes to bend the rules as well as long as it is for the right reason. In "Amok Time", Kirk went against his orders for Spock - I loved that.
