RIP Udo Jürgens

A great man has left us yesterday, all of a sudden and very unexpected. He was one of those people that seemed to have been around forever and you expect him to be around forever. He had a successful career for decades, starting in the Sixthies. Just a few weeks ago the TV celebrated a wonderful gala for his 80th birthday, and he still seemed so ( Read more... )

Well, I guess it would be difficult with the language barrier (when I was young and did not understand English, I was not interested in English music either). But I learned from the documentary yesterday that he was famous in France already before he became famous in Germany. Singing with Gilbert Bécaud. There is also a video of him singing with Harry Belafonte. Basically, he got them all ;)

From what I was reading today, I guess he really overdid himself with the last concerts. His brother said he wanted to celebrate Christmas with him but he rather wanted to be alone, feeling exhausted. And he was about to move into a new house in the new year which was reconstructed at the moment, and more concerts to come in February, after which he did not want to work as much anymore but spend time with his children and grandkids. His last CD is called "Mitten im Leben" and that's what it feels like, even at 80.

This weekend is all about bad news. Now he's followed by Joe Cocker (that will be a party in Heaven) and then the sad news about Glasgow yesterday :( I heard about it when John Barrowman tweeted about it. They also had that bad helicopter crash last year. I know the place, I have been there, and I will fly to Glasgow again on January 1st. That could have been me lying dead on the pavement.

So, I am falling from one sadness into the next, it all started last week with watching the finale of "White Collar". So sad to see this show go.

I just wrapped my gifts and played some Udo Jürgens Christmas songs while doing so.

yeah, the Glasgow news are horrible - caught it on the internet and first thought was for panto goers and John's family.... so yeah, that hit home even though I've never been to Glasgow especially after the news with the Clutha pub last year.

The trip to panto is something to look forward to, isn't it? I know it's in Glasgow but you'll still have fun

Yes, the panto is definitely something to look forward to! Although it is a bit weird to wish for Christmas already to be over LOL From what I hear, best panto ever, John has more songs than usual, they certainly go out with a bang. Also, something I already laughed about two years ago is back, and surely be even more hilarious. You don't want to come as well? I can promise you won't regret it. Also, there won't be one with JB next year and who knows when we will get the next one. So, last chance!

I just saw all the flowers and messages in Glasgow at a picture, wow, that is a lot of flowers! Hopefully the lorry driver can say what happened, he is still alive and treated in hospital.

The panto itself is not located in the city center, it is a bit outside, at the Clyde river. You walk half an hour.

You know, some years ago a similar accident happened in Hamburg. A man under drugs drove more than 100 km/h and standing at a light sign actor Dietmar Mues and his wife were killed, as well as two other pedestrians.

Sadly I can't afford to go to Glasgow, which I'm fine with - I rather eat :) Saw him in Birmingham in panto a few years back and looking forward to the concert in June!

I was just starting to become a fan when he did panto in Birmingham but I have been to the city four times since and I really love it! I love the mix of historical and new architecture, and the canals and that you can walk from one end to the other, the city is not too big. I'm sure the concerts will be awesome! I'm in Ipswich and Cardiff.

Have fun!

I'll be going to the Birmingham concert (and maybe Leicester as I work there but I don't have a ticket for it yet... we'll see what the finances say - unless of course it's sold out, then I won't go).
