AFT: The Doctor celebrates Nikolaus Day

Dec 06, 2014 09:58

Today is December 6th, that means it is Nikolaus Day in Germany. Don't know if other countries celebrate it as well. The next morning, they will find them filled with sweets and nuts and an orange possibly. But if they weren't polished, ( Read more... )

Love this...

I know that they don't celebrate it in the UK (my son's missing out - I've been here this long I forget it about it every year) but I know that the Dutch also celebrate it

Thank you!

A friend from Hungary also just told me they celebrate it! Glad to know we aren't the only ones. It's always interesting learning about different customs from foreign countries.

But do you have picked up any British customs in the time you have been there?

Well, we celebrate on 25 December - my mother in law cooks the traditional turkey :) That's as traditional as we get now

Christmas Eve (24th) we have been going to McDonalds after a church service so we'll be going there - the service sadly won't take place as it has been moved

Ooo, I've actually never heard of Nikolaus Day before so that was very cool to not only get some new action figure pics to enjoy but to learn something in the process! :D

As always, your props are amazing and I spend I don't even know how long just looking over each shot and being amazed at everything! :D Hee, hope that the Doctor gets everything on his Christmas list, whatever all that may be! ;) :D

PS - So sorry I'm behind on my emails but I'm hoping to get all caught up over this weekend. *fingers crossed* I just wanted you to know that I did get them but just haven't had time to respond yet. *blush* I need to ask Santa for the ability to better manage my time, lol! ;) *adds that to my Christmas list, just in case* ;) ♥♥♥

Thank you! I always like to learn about different customs in foreign countries, so I am happy to teach some of my own. I already learnt that it is also celebrated in Hungary and in the Netherlands, so we are not the only ones in Germany ( ... )

I can't believe how far behind I still am in everything! *facepalm*

Anyway, I'm working on catching up on everything. Thank you SO MUCH for linking me to all of those because I did indeed miss all of them! :( :( :( I just don't keep up with LJ like I used to or like I really want to! :( I'm still hoping that Santa will come straggling in with the gift of better time management, lol! ;)

*hugs* ♥♥♥

Lovely, my father is Austrian and used to tell me about this tradition, I never did it but we do celebrate Hieligen Abend and I still do with my husband in a way, we always have Pheffernusse, lebkuchen and Gluhwein, Its not Christmas without it.

That sounds great! There are also more and more German Christmas markets in the UK. See, I need to post my pictures of the ones in Birmingham and London I visited. It is so fun go walk around and see signs for "Bratwurst" and "Glühwein" and stuff. Feels like home ;)

The kids love to get some pre-Christmassy stuff, also small toys etc. Kinda like you opening one gift early? We get our gifts on Holy Eve anyway, so no need for that.

I hope the Doctor gets plenty of sweets and shares them with his companions. :-)

True! He has a lot of mouths to feed LOL
Someone also suggested it would be one pair of shoes for each regeneration.
