Marge came to visit our branch the other day. When she asked how I was, I said "Oh, you know, just working the line. But I can cook and do inventory now! Other than that, same old." She looked at me oddly, and said "We'll see."

A few days ago (and a few days after that), Jim decided to start training me for the next Shift Supervisor position. JM, as planned by corporate, seems to have been skipped over.

Still unsure whether this is the right decision, I've been snooping around, trying to get answers in terms of why JM has been blacklisted. It seems like he already quit once before - long before I got there - and he actually only started up again about a week before I did. One of the biggies at corporate, in their "from above" vision, decided that a man who has quit once before is a far bigger risk than the one who hasn't (because if a line server or cook quits, we can replace him in a day - but if a Shift Supervisor quits, that's a whole different story).

Funny, considering that both Jim and Marge have known that I've been actively looking for other work since I got here, and that JM is stuck working here due to circumstance. I told Jim that, although I'd enjoy the position, that JM probably deserves it a little more. Jim agreed, but sort of shrugged his shoulders. I told him I'd be bugging him about that in the future, which I have been.

Most recently, I've been telling Jim that we should just train both of us. We've been short on hours lately, and if both of us are trained as Supervisors then we'll need two line servers to replace us instead of one. This will give the current staff more hours in the interim, and it'll mean we have a backup in case, say, one of us does actually quit (though I did not specify which one of us). There's another branch that needs a Supervisor, so training us both wouldn't have to mean we'd both be here. Jim said he'd think about it.
