Sooner or later, I'll write a more detailed post. But for now, just know that I'm here in Westford, Massachusetts (not Boston...), and I arrived safely and comfortably.
Grace has been so sweet. I'm living with her and her family until we get an apartment. Her house is huge - well, way bigger than ones I'm typically used to, anyway. Her father Dick makes sound recognition programs that let you speak instead of type into a word document, and her brother Ethan is a wonderful nerd. Her mother Janet and dog Zelda took to me quite nicely, and I think about going for walks with both of them at some point.
Right now, the apartment search is put on hold for a town fair called 4-H, which as far as I can tell from observation stands for Horses, Horses, Horses and Hansen family (they all play a rather integral role in setup). Grace was one of the judges for the writing contests, and she sneaked me in, allowing me to read and judge the "My Personal Hero" child essays. It felt really weird declaring a winner based on my opinion alone, so I was sure to write really helpful comments on all of the entries, both encouraging and constructive but also full of recommendations.
I've been playing my uke a lot in secret, when the family isn't around. I'm working on a few covers in the hopes of convincing whoever is the entertainment manager at Common Grounds to maybe let me play a Homecoming show or something. I'm not a hundred percent convinced this would be a good idea, but it has crossed my mind. I guess it'll depend on how many people would want to see me, and whether that would overstep a few boundaries.
until next time,
Chalkey
