this was supposed to be my easy year. but i'm feeling like i need to try new things. so i've bought pink tights, two leotards and ballet slippers. i can't wait. i hope there's a recital.

one of my team teachers was called into duty for the national guard. he'll be helping evacuees for the forseeable future. i'm glad for it of course, though it does mean that my team of four will consist of me, a new tfa teacher (tiny, white and blond) and two substitutes. i mean... ok.
we were doing grammar exercises today, and the kids weren't sure what pronoun to use with for the antecedent "beth." they didn't know if it was a girl's or a boy's name. come to think of it, i've never had a student named elizabeth or beth... i had a girl named jalisa who called herself betty. that was about it.
a boy was killed at another middle school. he was ran over by a school bus. heartbreaking insanity.
this is a hard world to live in sometimes.
