two reasons why life in atlanta has taken a turn for the worse
1 - my computer some how fried out its modem, leaving connection to the internet impossible until i somehow fix the problem. also, in this awful course of events, i tried to reboot my computer to get my internet working. all i did was give myself an empty, hollowed version of my old computer with all my files in piles on cd's stacked next to me. it left me feeling very depressed and regretful. and the modem still doesn't work. is a new computer in order? i bought an external modem last night, but decided it looked way too ghetto hanging off the side of my computer. plus, i couldn't get it to work.
2 - on a much more serious and truly sad note, one of my favorite students, dontaveus (cassie - you probably met him - he's the one who goes by BeBop, has a gold grill) is now a dad. he and a seventh grade girl now have a son named jaleel. he's so calm about it. i heard the rumor, so i asked him straight up, expecting him to say it was a rumor, and he's like "yeah. that's true." then he told me how the baby looks like him. i mean... this is wierd. it's not my first pregnancy situation, not even close. and he's not my first student who is a dad either. but he was one my favs when he was a sixth grader, and he's been one of my favs all year this year too. he's so smart and funny... i can't believe he's having sex on a regular basis. i can't believe he's going to high school next year and has a son to mess with. can you collect child support from a kid who doesn't have a job? i hope he doesn't start running for the boys for money. this sucks.
