OOC: Character survey of doom
Basically a Q&A on this little knucklehead. :) - revised version 7/20/13
The New, Improved Character Survey of Doom
Body and Appearance
1. Describe the character's height and build. Is he heavyset, thin, short, rangy? He's just shy of six feet tall and a sort of medium build.
2. How old is he? 49 as of 2013
3. Describe his posture. Does he carry himself well or does he slouch? His shoulders are a bit slouched at times though since DeAnna came into his life, he's become more confident about himself.
4. How is his health? Is he fit or out of shape? Any illnesses or conditions? Any physical disabilities? Technically he's above average in fitness, though most of that is more from special abilities than his own lifestyle. And health wise...well, I can't exactly say undead is healthy...
5. How does he move? Is he clumsy, graceful, tense, fluid? He's agile and has his moments of gracefulness, but he's a bit awkward at times and will try to show off. Then he falls on his head.
6. How attractive is this character physically? How does he perceive himself in the mirror? Some may consider him cute. I think it's fair to say he has an adorkable quality about him.
Since he has no reflection, he doesn't like mirrors. They don't cause him pain or anything but not seeing anything reflected back can either make him angry or depressed depending on his mood prior to accidentally looking into a mirror. There's only 1 in his apartment on the bathroom cabinet and he has a curtain over it.
7. Describe his complexion. Dark, light, clear, scarred? He always was fair skinned and now his skin tone is even lighter. He's not completely pale though.
8. Describe his hair: color, texture, style. Very dark brown (near black). Style wise, it's short and it tends to stick up on top. He calls that style 'eternal bedhead.'
9. What color are his eyes? Mostly near black, with flecks of brown still remaining. When he's angered, his eyes glow a golden color.
10. Does the character have any other noteworthy features? Yeah, since his pb has a mole on his cheek, Terrence has one too.
11. What are his chief tension centers? When he's frustrated, he'll get headaches but that's about it.
12. What is the character's wardrobe like? Casual, dressy, utilitarian? Bright colors, pastels, neutrals? Is it varied, or does he have six of the same suit? Casual. He tends to dress in a t-shirt and jeans, sometimes with a light jacket over the shirt. When he used to have an office job, he dressed in a dark suit, white shirt and a tie.
13. Do his clothes fit well? Does he seem comfortable in them? Yes, they fit him fine. Some of his t-shirts run a little large, but those are ones he uses to relax in.
14. Does he dress the same on the job as he does in his free time? If not, what are the differences? Pretty much, though at work his has special jacket with the company logo on it.
15. You knew it was coming: Boxers, briefs or commando? Boxers
Speech
1. What does this character's voice sound like? High-pitched, deep, hoarse? Um, average for a guy, I guess. It's not deep nor high pitched.
2. How does he normally speak? Loud, soft, fast, evenly? Does he talk easily, or does he hesitate? If he's annoyed, REALLY loud. Overall, average volume level. He tends to talk somewhat quickly unless he's flustered. If he is, he'll pause and stammer a bit.
3. Does the character have a distinct accent or dialect? Any individual quirks of pronunciation? Any, like, you know, verbal tics? Even though he's in DC, he's still got a trace of a New York accent. And he'll use slang in his speech (ya instead of you, dunno instead of don't know, cuz instead of because, etc.)
4. What language/s does he speak, and with how much fluency? He's fluent in English. He can understand a little Italian and Spanish, but not much.
5. Does he switch languages or dialects in certain situations? Not really, but he will make sure he speaks formally when speaking to someone of importance.
6. Is he a good impromptu speaker, or does he have to think about his words? He can be, save when he's flustered.
7. Is he eloquent or inarticulate? Under what circumstances might this change? Middle of the road. He speaks casually most of the time, but he can speak more formally when he has to.
Mental and Emotional
1. How intelligent is this character? Is he book-smart or street-smart? Above average intelligence. Book smart.
2. Does he think on his feet, or does he need time to deliberate? He needs time to deliberate. If he doesn't have the time to do so, he can be impulsive. (Though, he doesn't quite come up with the best solutions.)
3. Describe the character's thought process. Is he more logical, or more intuitive? Idealistic or practical? For things that need planning, he'll be logical and practical. He can be idealistic at times, but overall is more logical.
4. What kind of education has the character had? College graduate, computer science major.
5. What are his areas of expertise? What, if anything, is he interested in learning more about? He's a techie so he knows how to fix things. He is a bit more interested in learning about supernatural things and adapting to his transformation.
6. Is he an introvert or an extrovert? Introvert
7. Describe the character's temperament. Is he even-tempered or does he have mood swings? Cheerful or melancholy? Laid-back or driven? Relatively speaking, he's fairly even tempered. He used to be more melancholy in the past, but now since he's found some folks he can confide in, he's much more cheerful now. Overall, his personality is more laid back.
8. How does he respond to new people or situations? Is he suspicious, relaxed, timid, enthusiastic? He's a little shy of new people since he worries how they'll react when they find out he's a vampire. He's cautious at first but if someone accepts him, he's very happy and becomes quite open with them.
9. Is he more likely to act, or to react? Usually react.
10. Which is his default: fight or flight? Flight. His fighting skills pale in comparison to others of his kind. If people are in trouble, he's more likely to try to get the people to safety by running away with them until they're somewhere safe.
11. Describe the character's sense of humor. Does he appreciate jokes? Puns? Gallows humor? Bathroom humor? Pranks? He appreciates jokes and tends to crack them a lot, especially about vampire pop culture. His humor isn't really on the gross out humor and as for pranks, he's not really likely to pull them on someone.
12. Does the character have any diagnosable mental disorders? If yes, how does he deal with them? Not really.
13. What moments in this character's life have defined him as a person? Probably his first encounters with the supernatural. This was back when he was about nine and found out that Eion is a mage. It really opened the door for possibilities he didn't think were out there.
14. What does he fear? Losing control of himself and hurting others, especially those he cares about deeply.
15. What are his hopes or aspirations? Reversing his transformation is a big one. But if he can't, he just wants to find a little place in the world where he'll be accepted.
16. What is something he doesn't want anyone to find out about him? He's actually more worried someone will find out what he is and assume the worst about him.
Relationships
1. Describe this character's relationship with his parents. He is very much a Mama's boy. He remains very close to his mom, even to this day. His Dad was a good guy, the one he inherited his sense of humor from. His father, unfortunately, is deceased.
2. Does the character have any siblings? What is/was their relationship like? One older sister named Alexis. Right now, things are a bit shaky between them since she hasn't associated much with her brother since his transformation.
3. Are there other blood relatives to whom he is close? Are there ones he can't stand? Yes, his niece and nephew, Amanda and Steven. Of course, since his sister doesn't often speak to Terrence, he hasn't been in contact with them.
There's really no one in his family he has grudges with.
4. Are there other, unrelated people whom he considers part of his family? What are his relationships with them? He thinks of DeAnna's family as his extended family. Still, he hasn't had much contact with the males of her family, but DeAnna's mother and sister (Holly) he he has.
5. Who is/was the character's best friend? How did they meet? Eion Stanfield. Terrence's family moved to the DC area when he was a kid and Eion lived in the house next door. Shortly after moving in, Terrence met him.
6. Does he have other close friends? Sera, Milo and to a degree, Arianna.
7. Does he make friends easily, or does he have trouble getting along with people? As long as they are not bothered by him not being human, he does. That seems to be the main obstacle he has since many folks find him to be a decent guy.
8. Which does he consider more important: family or friends? Family, though friends are almost as important.
9. Is the character single, married, divorced, widowed? Has he been married more than once? He's never been married and is currently single. (Though in a past RP line, he did have a girlfriend.)
10. Is he currently in a romantic relationship with someone other than a spouse? He's not in any relationship currently.
11. Who was his first crush? Who is his latest? I haven't established his very first crush, but his most recent was a lady named Melody.
12. What does he look for in a romantic partner? He seems to have a thing for dark haired ladies.
13. Does the character have children? Grandchildren? If yes, how does he relate to them? If no, does he want any? He has no children. Now, he knows it's pretty rare to have one biologically. But he actually wouldn't mind having them someday (or adopting, at least).
14. Does he have any rivals or enemies? He's not thought of well by other vampires that will hunt humans.
15. What is the character's sexual orientation? Where does he fall on the Kinsey scale? He's straight and hasn't experimented so a 0 on the scale.
16. How does he feel about sex? How important is it to him? Well for awhile there, he wasn't sure he could perform so he felt embarrassed about it. But now he's a bit more confident.
17. What are his turn-ons? Turn-offs? Weird bedroom habits? His only odd one is that he really enjoys human warmth so he'll probably keep an embrace going longer than normal.
Beliefs
1. Do you know your character's astrological (zodiac of choice) sign? How well does he fit type? His Western Zodiac sign is on the cusp of Gemini and Cancer. (Depends on the chart.) He seems to fit the Cancer sign more than Gemini though in the sense that he's a loving type that needs reassurance. Geminis seems to be a bit more sly and have a duel nature thing going.
2. Is this character religious, spiritual, both, or neither? How important are these elements in his life? He's actually still agnostic, despite what's happened to him. He's not sure what his fate would be since he's not really sure if he has a soul or not.
Religious items do have some effect against him though. He can't touch someone wearing some sort of symbol (regardless of faith) unless he's permitted to. They don't force him to look away, however.
3. Does this character have a personal code of morals or ethics? If so, how did that begin? What would it take to compromise it? He does. He tries to be the best person he can be. He doesn't want to harm anyone as he doesn't feel mortals are beneath him.
The only thing that might get him to compromise any of those beliefs is if someone does great harm to a family member or friend of his. Then he'd be pretty tempted to strike back.
4. How does he regard beliefs that differ from his? Is he tolerant, intolerant, curious, indifferent? He's tolerant. mostly. He's only bothered by people who 'know' there is one true faith or claim he's automatically doomed to Hell.
5. What prejudices does he hold? Are they irrational or does he have a good reason for them? He distrusts a lot of his own kind, actually. He's not very likely to act friendly towards them at first. He does have pretty good reason for this since he was attacked and left alone to figure out how to handle his transformation. Also, another one of his kind attacked DeAnna (former RP storyline girlfriend) and before that, the girl he had a crush on, Melody.
Daily Life
1. What is the character's financial situation? Is he rich, poor, comfortable, in debt? He's getting by, saving a bit here and there.
2. What is his social status? Has this changed over time, and if so, how has the change affected him? He's always been middle class, though he was more towards the upper middle class at one point. It does disappoint him that he's gone down a tad, but he figures, 'hey, at least I have a job...'
3. Where does he live? House, apartment, trailer? Is his home his castle or just a place to crash? What condition is it in? Does he share it with others? It's a basement apartment. He lives alone and the place was moderately neat, but by no means perfect.
4. Besides the basic necessities, what does he spend his money on? Techie things. He likes having his big screen TV with a Blu-Ray player.
5. What does he do for a living? Is he good at it? Does he enjoy it, or would he rather be doing something else? He works in a shipping receiving bay, basically routing heavy items where they need to go. He is good at it, better than others (but of course, he has superhuman strength so he can lift more.)
He doesn't enjoy it though. In fact, he wishes he could go back to IT work, but he hasn't been able to find a job that will hire him.
6. What are his interests or hobbies? How does he spend his free time? Watching sports, and playing poker.
7. What are his eating habits? Does he skip meals, eat out, drink alcohol, avoid certain foods? Well, he can't eat traditional foods anymore. He he's not a happy camper about needing blood to survive, but knows there's nothing he can do about that. He's been fortunate to find a friend that works in a lab that runs tests to screen blood for various things so after the tests are done, she's set aside vials for him.
He still can have liquids and has been known to drink alcohol from time to time.

Which of the following do you associate with the character, or which is his favorite:
1. Color? Gray - mostly since that's his jacket color, always.
2. Smell? Can't really think of anything to associate. Though I will say if he smells blood in the air, his nose twitches slightly. That's about it though.
3. Time of day? Evening
4. Season? Winter, not only since it's dark longer but that's also when his transformation was.
5. Book? He doesn't really have one.
6. Music? Classic rock
7. Place? Washington DC (since that's where he is now)
8. Substance? Erm, what?
9. Plant? None. He prefers not to grow them.
10. Animal? Puppy. Whenever he gets emotionally hurt, he gives a sad puppy-like look.
