CHARACTER INFORMATION-
Canon Character and Series: Kimura Kaere, Sayonara Zetsubou-sensei
In-Game Name: Kimura Kaere
Age: 24
Gender: Female
Position & Ship: 4423, Boatswain

Appearance: Let's get one thing straight. Kaere is the Ms. Fanservice of her canon. Slightly more solidly built than a model, she's got long legs and wispy and graceful-looking arms, and her enormous bust results in every dress she owns looking far too tight for her. She tends to stand out; her slightly slanted eyes are a light blue that you could spot a mile away, and her hair is bright blonde, wavy and reaches just past her shoulders. Her bangs are, though swept to each side, prominent and have more volume than the rest of her hair.

In her dominant personality as Kaere, she carries herself confidently enough to be considered arrogant or uncaring, commonly seen with crossed arms even when she isn't angry, and wears tight clothing and relatively short skirts (and seems to have a thing for fruit-printed bloomers). When Kaede, her "other" personality, is in charge, she prefers longer, more proper and more traditional clothes, refuses to look anyone in the eye, blushes, folds her arms and tries to blend into the background.

Personality: Like everyone from her canon, Kaere's got something wrong with her brain. In her particular case, she has multiple personalities. The dominant personality is "Kaere". She gives off an immediate aura of being confident and self-assured, to the point that she tends to intimidate most people. Still, she's not unfriendly; in fact, she'll approach people easily and she's confused when they shy away from her. Kaere looks people in the eyes and wants to talk to them on equal terms, whether they're friends, strangers or superiors.

As friendly and outgoing as she is, it's not just the fact that she likes to get close or get to the point that people are put off by her. She's also very set in her ways and constantly refers to how things were back on her home island; although she's reasonably intelligent, it seems odd to her that people would do things so strangely, and she feels like she has to at least tell them how it's done back home. If you offend her -- usually by looking up her skirt (whether or not it's an accident) or insulting her (whether or not you have a point) -- she'll fly into a rage, threatening to raid your town and/or ship. Sometimes she'll actually try.

Being so stubborn and so attached to the ways of her island means that there are some things that Kaere just can't deal with. "Kaede" is her other personality, formed from the culture shock when Kaere couldn't cope in the different world of going to school in Ivona. Kaede is the ultimate yamato nadeshiko, or at least she sees herself as such. She shies away from other people, blushes and hides in situations that scare her instead of threatening the other person, and the only things that she will say in public are things that will boost her "perfect flower" image, like "Oh, I'm so embarrassed!". Kaede appears when Kaere can't deal with a situation by herself,

Although she looks like the sort who would fade into the background, and is much more conciliatory than Kaere, Kaede is not simply a piece of cardboard. She's just as dramatic as her other self; she'll fall in love at the drop of a hat, she takes things incredibly personally, and any situation that she sees as hopeless will lead her to jump in front of a carriage. While Kaere freaks out and tries to resist her other self taking over (and it works, too -- Kaede rarely appears), Kaede doesn't seem to care about keeping control and willingly slips back into the subconscious when she can't face a situation.

Abilities/Weapons:

Violent - Yes, it's an ability. Kaere will fight and fight hard if she's been insulted, and if you don't stop her, she really will raid your ship.

Focused - When Kaere does something, she always gets straight to the point. She has something she wants and she outright asks for it, and if she doesn't get it, she might very well take it. Even Kaede works with a clear purpose in mind, although her methods are more roundabout and she tends to give up more easily (and dramatically).

Bold Worldview - Applies to Kaere only, but that's who's in charge almost all of the time anyway. She sees herself as equal to everybody else, and will look into a superior's eyes and ask them why their hair looks funny. Of course, this has multiple drawbacks (see Weaknesses), but it also means that she isn't shuffling around and wondering what to do but is actually getting things done... usually.

How well can your character hack?: Not at all.

Weaknesses:

What Is Politeness? - Kaere is not the person you want for a diplomatic mission. She'll say what she wants and that's that, not caring about the other person's feelings or customs. If you unleash Kaede to try to solve the problem, she won't say anything, just blush and hide behind a curtain.

Split Personality - Kaere's in charge most of the time, and she tries not to let Kaede out, but the fact is that there are two people in her head. Two minds are better than one? Probably not in her case, considering how crazy they both are.

Failtastic Switch System - Switching between personalities may occur when one can't deal with a situation and needs the other, but each personality puts the other's problems on the backburner and instead immediately starts to try and fix the situation to make herself more comfortable. This often comes at the expense of addressing the problem at all.

Too Sensitive - As strong as she likes to think she is, this is a person who developed a whole other personality to face problems like culture shock. (In fact, in one throwaway joke in her canon that's never mentioned again, the character whose specialty is to multiply everyone else's mental issues ends up giving Kaere upwards of seventeen personalities and possibly a hundred or more.) Kaere's easily provoked -- if the wind picks up and her skirt flies up, she will fly into a rage at anyone in the vicinity, threatening to raid their town singlehandedly. You might want to keep her away from people who are likely to try and get a rise out of her.

History: Kaere was born to rather unassuming parents on a small, unimportant island technically part of the Badlands. They were a clothing merchant family, and, as such, met a lot of people from different backgrounds with different points of view. So that she didn't offend any customers, her parents drilled it into her that people from different countries liked and disliked different things and that she should act accordingly to what kind of person she was speaking with. Mini!Kaere took this to heart and was extremely polite around some people but loud and chaotic around others. The customers were pleased at the adorable little girl who was just like the ones from back home, and Kaere didn't develop a real self so much as two distinct fake ones to keep other people happy.

The Kimura family didn't realize that anything was particularly wrong with this, and were, in fact, delighted with their adaptable child. They dreamed of sending her away to travel across the continent for school, but didn't quite have the money to manage something like that, so she stayed on the island for a good number of years. As a teenager, she decided to strike out on her own and go somewhere to make her parents happy, but thanks to limited resources and a series of unfortunate events involving sneaking onto a rival merchant's ship and being tossed off, she ended up in Solare. Kaere resolved to make the best of it and enrolled in a seemingly normal school there. She already had issues. A dangerous environment and that particular class being full of psychos made it worse. Much worse. Her coping mechanisms were full-fledged multiple personalities by now, and she alternated between protecting herself with raging threats and hiding in the corner to be invisible. Everybody else in the class had their own problems, not the least of whom was the teacher, so nobody really dealt with this properly. Kaere and Kaede came back to her/their island completely defined and in opposition to one another.

Her parents didn't know what to do with her; although they'd really wanted her to continue the family business, her "adaptable personality" had gotten to the point where Kaere scared the customers off and Kaede wouldn't even talk to them. Luckily, Kaere formed her own plans after speaking to a pirate on the run; that kind of life sounded exciting, and scaring people away was actually a good thing. She marched off to hide in a cargo shipment, actually succeeded in smuggling herself out this time, and started to look for a new ship to join.

SAMPLES-
Third Person (roleplay):

This was unacceptable.

At least, it was unacceptable to Kimura Kaere, and as far as she was concerned, that was enough. She was perfectly innocent! All she had done was get up on the stage at what looked like a perfectly nice bar and start singing. It wasn't like she wasn't allowed (though if she weren't, she'd probably have done it anyway); tonight was an open competition, and everybody else's singing was so abysmal that she'd blow them out of the sky. In fact, she noticed, the bar patrons' gaping faces meant she'd done just that.

Then came the tomatoes.

"Who did that!?"

Kaere peeled a soft, half-bad tomato off of her face in utter disgust and tossed its remains into the crowd. Just as the establishment's guards tried to flag her down for it, she marched to the edge and leapt off the stage, resulting in her skirt flying up. She quickly pushed it down, surveyed the immediate area, and smacked everyone who was staring before she stalked over to the table in the corner.

"What do you think you're doing?", she demanded.

A drunken man with a tomato in his hand mumbled something unintelligible, but, as she later reported with the ease and indignation of someone who had obviously done this before, she definitely caught the words "stop", "tone-deaf" and "I was savin' our ears". Therefore, she would argue, anything she did and could possibly have done in retaliation was completely justified and no one could argue.

Unfortunately, the rest of the world, or at least the bar owner and patrons, unanimously agreed that beating the man repeatedly with a chair was a bit too much.

As the blonde was dragged out of the establishment, she kicked, flailed and writhed to get away. Even as they tossed her out on the porch and shut the door, all their ears echoed withthe unholy screams of "I'LL RAID YOUR WHOLE TOWN FOR THIS!".

And as the town police discovered the next day, with piles of paperwork on their desks detailing stolen property from nearly every house in town and a great deal of alcohol missing from the bar, she wasn't kidding.

First Person (journal):

You know, there's something very strange going on around here. Well, besides the usual things -- all of you staying up too late, your climbing the stairs in any old order you like, your tasteless food, et cetera. Those are strange, but they're not the thing I'm looking for. This is important.

I've found that a few pairs of my underwear are missing from my room. This can only be the work of one of three different and equally disgusting types of people!

1) Some disgusting saboteur who wants to run them up the flagpole and expose them to the world, therefore trying to keep me from ever going out into the world out of sheer humiliation!

2) A blackmailer who wants to receive some great sum of money or a discount at my family's store in exchange for them back!

3) A pervert who just wants to keep them for himself!

Any of these options is an outrage, of course. Consider this my official announcement that I will do something about this bloomer thief! Whoever it is will never see the light of day again!

So, if it's any of you, you can just surrender now.
