Rotational picspam - Regalton part 2.

May 08, 2011 17:42

Only a month or so later than I wanted, here's the next part of this rotation's picspam.  This covers three houses in Regalton proper, and I'm going in the order I want to, rather than the order of playing like I normally do.

The Main House.

Now seriously, who doesn't love these two?  They really are just so sweet together and I no longer feel guilty about what I did to Eddie with his first marriage because of it.

Adorable Emmi is adorable.  Left to her own devices when upstairs, she'll jump on her bed.  When downstairs, she'll head to the piano.  Her ten playful points really do seem to be defining her at the moment.  it makes me happy because it means that she's heading in the direction I was hoping for when I started to think about her characterisation.

There was still a lot of this going on when I entered the lot.  I've not been finding Carmen's LTW too bad, it's just a bit tedious and takes time.

Emmi is starting to tire of it though.  "Another sandwich for breakfast?"

"Eat it up and keep your Mama happy kiddo."

This picture also reminds me that I should really go through my defaults at some point and pull the couple which are too Medieval for my game.  Don't get me wrong, the deeds are lovely, it's just the Maxis ones look like they fit my Victorian world better, because they're not so ornate.

Carmen decides it's time to teach Emmi how to bow.  She's a bit confused by it, but it's something she is going to have to learn.

I think i took this picture to remind me that I want to look and see if I can work out which line it is in the lighting file which regulates how much light comes through the windows at dusk.  it looks fine when you're not looking at the window, but when you do, I think it's too bright.  It's not even this bright outside.  But in case I didn't, wave hello to Stuart.

I've been trying to train Emmi into sleeping in just the one bed (I'm sure this is something which used to be really easy, but now seems to be difficult.  I'm wondering if I either have a hack which is interfering with the game code, or if it was changed with an EP).  She's not getting the hang of it, and snuck off to sleep in her grandparents' bed while I wasn't looking.  She ended up with Beth saying hello to her, and wasn't a happy bunny because of it.

I did go looking for Beth, but the only ghost I actually found that night was George.  He likes to stay in the chapel

The second day in the house was the day I picked to go round all the businesses and see how they're doing.  So in other words, as well as seeing Eddie primping, you're about to see a load of business picspam, with maybe a few musings throw in.

I always look forward to seeing who's going to turn up.  More often than not, it's imported sims and family.

Lots and lots of family members.  Goodness knows what Sarah Jane was looking for, but I'm slightly scared.

I've been planning on giving all the businesses make overs since I did Bric-a-Brac a few rotations ago, so I finally got round to doing Toybox and Bouqets.  With Boutique being relocated to a new lot in Simdon, it just leaves me Books to do.  However, I'm planning on getting rid of Bluewater at some point fairly soon, and replacing it with a new shopping district, split into the towns of Simford and Simmingfordbury.  When I do, I'm going to rebuild Beth's Books there, so I'm leaving it as it is for the time being.

Cathy really likes the businesses.  I think she turned up on every lot.

The Roselands were burgled a couple of rotations ago.  Louisa is still pissed off about it.

"Oh, well this is awkward."

"How can I help you sir?"

As you can see, Boutique in the proper hood is set up exactly the same as in the dummy hood.  Also, hi Cathy.  Again.

Emily Rose still pulls awesome faces.

I decided to set all the bolts of fabric as being for sale in the hope that it'll encourage more people to shop in the place, as well as amking it look more authentic.  That may have been a mistake.  the fabric is so cheap, that I think only two people walked into the back room and purchased clothes from the rack.  I might ahve to rethink, because otherwise the shop will end up losing money hand over fist.

Yeah, this is kinda weird, given the fact that in the story, you've already seen Derri complete his first year at university.  This is what writing and publishing a chapter before you've finished playing the rotation it's based on will do to you.

The good witch really, really liked this lot.  She turned up four times overall and three of those times were within a six hour span.  Like I say, she must like it.

Pretty picture showing off how the lighting mod looks when looking into a room.

Emmi is just the cutest.  That is all.

She's also excelling at school.  I've been thinking about schooling recently.  The family are now about at the stage where they would be expected to employ a governess to teach their daughters, and send their sons to a private school, rather than the local Board school.

This is something which annoys me and I don't understand at all.  Stuart asked Emmi to play catch with him, just outside the greenhouse.  They walked from the greenhouse, through the house and out to in front of the chapel.  in other words, they completely bypassed that lovely large expanse of lawn sandwiched between the kitchen garden, and where they are now.  How does that even compute?

Ok, a clickable thumbnail for this picture, since it's huge and I don't want to shrink it, but that afternoon, Carmen ate her 200th grilled cheese sandwich.  I no longer have to force feed the family sandwiches, and I've done it in plenty of time for Sophia to join the family too.  :D

My glee was short lived however, when that night George came out to haunt and somehow got, well the best way I can explain it, is stuck.  He didn't move from this spot for hours, and during that time, something very peculiar happened to my game speed.  Time kept freezing.  It was taking at least five seconds, often more for each sim minute to pass in game, and I really was starting to worry that the entire lot was borked and I'd have to rebuild it.  However, an hour before the sun came up, George suddenly unfroze, and made his way back to his urn.  As he did, time started back up again.

And all was well.

I still have not idea what caused it, but I'm hoping that it'll be fine when I get to play the house again.

John's House.

There are times when I feel more than slightly guilty about where I'm going with John.  It's true that he's one of the few mean sims in the neighbourhood who currently act like they have only 1 nice point, but he is very affectionate with Abbey.  I kinda hate that I'm portraying him as being abusing and controlling towards her, but it's also important for his character arc and the upcoming plot.  Hopefully it'll make more sense once it's done.

Henry's a pretty frequent haunter, and I do want to say that it's all his fault.

I did speed play this lot, since I wanted a staged picture for the update, which means I don't have many pictures.  I will say that Abbey is a very good mother.

I did get John's portrait started though, and I reached a decision with regards to simselves.  Up until now, all simselves have been immortal, but I've got a few simselves of people who have left the community or who no longer comment on my updates or this LJ.  I've decided that those simselves will be treated as any other sim if they move out of a simself house.  That includes Dita.  The fact that she is a simself is important for one thing in the future, and then her supply of elixir will be cut off and she'll grow old and die.  It's not a decision I've taken lightly, but I think it's the right one.

Here's little Henry.  He looks a lot like his father and has a similar personality too.  Only time will tell how he's going to behave.

This is from the staged pictures I wanted for the update.  It's probably not the best idea to be teaching Henry to walk here, but I needed Russ to be able to walk by and see.  And besides, Regalton is a quiet little place.

I sped up Abbey's pregnancy to get her to her third trimester for the pictures, and then slowed it down again.  I then forgot to pause the game while I did something, so she gave birth before I was ready, and before I randomised genetics, so Martha here is going to be a clone of her brother I'm sure.  I also might change her name, I've not made up my mind yet.

Marielle's cottage.

I've been a bit lapse at playing Marielle, so I was actually in her house for longer than one rotation, but it did allow me to make a good start on her garden.  She really wasnt' best pleased about having to grow her own food, but I'm sure she;ll get used to it.  Besides, now Eddie knows where she is, I'm sure some gifts of money will be making their way to her, so that she doesn't have to live in complete poverty.  in fact, given Eddie's way, I'm sure he'd move her to a bigger and better furnished cottage, but Miss Di has put her foot down.  Marielle still has a lot to learn about humility.

As you can see, I recreated her kitchen from the chapter in the real neighbourhood.  I liked it so much, I had to.

Having Marielle take care of her garden, I ran into one problem:

In four years of having a sim tend the legacy garden, I have never, ever had a plant sim.  Within two days of tending hers, Marielle was one.  Delicious irony and poetic justice it might have been, but it was also annoying, since I have no plans for her to be one, and in fact don't even have a convincing reason for them existing.  I did a sim_scene a little while ago, which touched on the idea of them, and I hope gave the impression that they were a mythical sim in Takemizu culture, but I hadn't planned on making that canon.  I had to cure her.

(Look pretty defaults made by Ove.)

All back to normal.

But not for long.  This was the next day.  As soon as she started to spray the greenfly, she turned again.

This time I decided to leave her as she was.  Taking care of the water and love needs was easy.  I know I should really keep her bath tub propped against a wall or something and then place it when she has a bath, but I can't be bothered with the faffing, so it's in a separate building along with the wc.

What I couldn't keep high though was her sun need.  Those sun lamps are far too expensive for her to be able to afford, plus they don't really fit in.  I don't mind using them in my greenhouses (which I have to, because the window set I use, are just windows and not greenhouse walls), but she wasn't going to get one in her cottage.  So she kept passing out by her postbox.

And then she'd get to sunbathe for a bit.

At the end of the rotation, I turned her back, andshe'd also made enough from selling some of her vegetables to buy a ladybird house, so hopefully this won't keep happening.  If it does, she'll just have to keep drinking the antidote.

That's it for now.  I'll end with this last picture of my simself beign growled at by a wolf as she walks past Marielle's cottage.  I hope you've enjoyed looking at the pictures.  Since I have only one more lot to play for the rotation, I'm going to try to share some more picspam soon.  I also might be asking for your opinions on who you want to see picspam of.
