Another
sim_spiration over here because I wrote far too much.
Ok, I feel I have to preface this by saying that this is AU not canon. It's more a little what if? idea that came to me and I thought would be nice to write, and then it kinda spiralled a bit. Also it's late here, so I've not been quite as careful as I normally am when writing someone else's character, so apologies Marina (
smoothiesims ) if things are a bit off with Ellie in this.

Cutting yourself while cooking.
"OW!" Ellie Fitzhugh-Legacy dropped the knife she was holding and sucked the end of her finger where she had just caught it, before heading to the sink. She looked at it as she turned the tap on with her other hand. Blood was welling up from where she had nicked it, but it didn't look too deep. She put it under the tap, hissing as the cold water hit it, causing the cut to sting. She turned her head as she heard the door open, and saw her husband standing there, their young daughter balanced on his hip.
"Shall we see what mama is up to?" his smile froze as he turned his attention from the little girl to Ellie. "Ellie, are you alright?" Concern clouded his features.
She gave a small smile. "Yes, I caught my finger chopping the vegetables. It’s fine, just something I could have done without doing."
"Is it deep?" he asked moving closer.
She shook her head. "I think the bleeding's almost stopped," she said taking her finger out of the stream of cold water.
"Do you want a plaster?"
"Please."
Stuart opened a cupboard and handed her a packet out of it. As he watched her fasten a bright blue sticking plaster around the end of her finger, he remarked "you seem flustered. More so than I would have expected from you cutting your finger."
As she handed the box back to him, Ellie contemplated fobbing him off with a half truth, but one thing they had learnt was that their relationship had to be based on truth and absolute trust, so instead she said "I have never cooked for your entire family before."
Stuart snaked his free arm around her waist and planted a kiss on the top of her head. "Ellie, this is my family, not the judging panel of a cookery contest, or a food critic for the local rag. They are not going to be judging you. Besides which you are a wonderful cook. It will be delicious."
Ellie didn't look so sure, so he tried another tack. "Kasan has only just started serving something other than grilled cheese sandwiches when she cooks. Father and Bertie would never dream of criticising you." He let go of her to get a better grip on the now wriggling daughter he was holding.
"What about my sister-in-law?" she asked as she fussed at the little girl. "She always manages to pull off lavish dinner parties for twenty flawlessly."
"You exaggerate slightly, and besides, you do not believe that she manages all of that by herself? I know for a fact that Lucy does a lot of cooking as part of her duties."
"Really?" Ellie was looking slightly happier.
"Really."
"What about your sister?"
"Emmi? The only thing she is ever critical of is music. That is her life, and it always will be, and as such, she cannot cook."
Ellie was by now feeling much better and in the mood for having a little fun with her husband. "I suppose you are going to tell me that the boy Emmi is bringing would never criticise either."
Disapproval etched Stuart's features. "That I cannot do, since I have no idea who she is bringing tonight. Every time I see her, it seems as if she is stepping out with a different boy." He bounced his daughter as he spoke.
"You're so cute when you do the disapproving big brother act." Ellie stretched up and planted a kiss on his chin.
He raised an eyebrow and gave a sardonic smile as he looked down at her. "Cute? Children and small animals are cute, adults never."
Ellie smiled. "Your daddy is wrong," she said to little Beth, "he is totally cute." She went to kiss his chin again, but he ducked his head at just the right time and her kiss landed instead on his lips. He returned it eagerly, and Ellie was the first one to pull away. She looked him smiling as she wondered how there had been a time when she had been unsure as to his feelings towards her. Oh he was still not the most physically affectionate of people when they were in company, preferring small, intimate gestures, such as brushing his hand against hers, or placing his hand on the small of her back as he ushered her through a door, to larger displays of affection. He saved those for when they were alone.
"Mr Legacy, you are now distracting me from my cooking," she said with mock seriousness.
"I am?" He looked at her with mock hurt. "I did not think I had started distracting you yet. It is about time that Beth had her nap. I was planning on really distracting you once I had put her down." He ducked his head for another kiss, but Ellie fended him off.
"Yes, and then you can be the one to explain to your family why we are eating cod and chips from the local chippie."
Stuart pursed his lips. "Ah yes, that would be slightly awkward to explain."
"Yes. Now go. Out of my kitchen." She waved her hands at him, prompting him to go.
By the time he turned at the door to watch her, she had picked up the knife and was chopping vegetables with gusto, all traces of her earlier fluster gone. Stuart smiled to himself. It was always good when he managed to help someone he loved.
