I've been tagged by Ang to do Anthony, which is cool. These really are fun to do, since I can get some of the nonsense I have in my head about my characters down on paper to share.
So, here we go.
Character: Anthony Smith.
1) He's the son of a country squire and his birth name is Anthony James Percival Forthrington-Smythe He dropped the Fotherington and changed the Smythe to Smith at university because he always found it pretentious. He's also entitled to call himself the Honourable, thanks to an uncle on his mother's side not having an heir, but again, finds the title pretentious, and doesn't like people fawning to him.
2) Since the moment they were born, he has thought of Bethany and Christopher as his own children. He's given them every advantage he can, and it breaks his heart that he can't name Christopher as his heir. He is, however already looking at acquiring a property in Simdon to give to Christopher when he finishes university. He also considers Zane his son, and will do all that he can for him too.
3) He is dreading the day suitors for Bethany and Sarah Jane turn up on his doorstep. He believes that William made a serious mistake allowing Joe to court Alexandra, but he also knows his wife, and how she would never have spoken to William again, had be refused. He knows he would make the same mistake, rather than risk being estranged from either of his daughters. He also doesn't think that any man will be good enough for them, but I'm confident he will be proven wrong.
4) He would never had made the first move towards consummating his marriage. He told Alexandra he adored her, but left it at that. He didn't want to pressurise her, nor did he want her to share his bed out of duty alone. He wanted her to love him and want to sleep with him.
5) In game he is a space pirate (his LTW), but in the story he has a role in government. He's been offered promotion on a number of occasions, but that would have necessitated being apart from his family more often, so he declined.
6) He does have a country pile in Simbridgeshire (and in fact most of his income is in the form of rents from the tenant farmers etc), but he vastly prefers the hustle and bustle of city life, dirty as it is, and owns a couple of properties there besides the townhouse he lives in.
7) He has never admitted it to Alexandra, but despite knowing why she suggested it, he was deeply hurt when she said she wanted to give Joe the chance to know his children. It was a huge relief to him when Joe declined so forcefully.
8) He may very well have been the one responsible for black balling Joe when Maria pressured her son into applying to the Simdon Gentlemen's Club.
9) He started wearing his hair so messy because it irritated his mother. She was always on at him to style it smooth, and apply a little pomade like his father did, and so he took to not even brushing it when he got out of bed in the morning. Now he does brush it, but messes it up again. Alexandra is fond of the style, because it means she can run her fingers through it when in one of their frequent embraces, and no one is any the wiser.
10) He is kind and awesome and loving and generous, and yet he brooks no nonsense. There is a spine of steel underneath all of that, and when he says something is going to happen, it will happen, no matter what. You do not cross him, and you hurt his family at your peril. The fact that Joe's father's export business has been sliding for years, and the deals that have fallen through? That's due to a combination of William's contacts and Anthony's influence. He is ruining the man, and he is doing it slowly.
