Bad news: I have now failed two California road tests. I am now batting .500 lifetime against road tests. Before my third try, I think I'm gonna put in some extra time with the hitting coach and try and concentrate on fundamentals, get back to basics, work on my mechanics.
Good news: I used to daydream about the day when I got my first car, and I always had this feeling it would be one of those old-ass Corolla hatchbacks. I don't know why, I just liked the look of 'em. Well, it isn't a hatchback, and it isn't old-ass, but as of yesterday I am the proud owner of a 1999 Toyota Corolla CE. After two months of deliberating and feeling guilty, I went through with it and bought a used car. I'm pretty happy with it, and I damn well better be, considering all the time I had to sink into the process of buying it this week.
Already the benefits are apparent. Yesterday night on our way back, my friend Vince and I went shopping at various electronics stores, and today I did grocery shopping without the aid of delivery or someone else's car. But the best part is that I finally got an In-N-Out burger, and yes, those are good burgers, Walter. As I sunk my teeth into that perfect, fresh bun, through the layer of exquisitely grilled onions, wiped the special sauce off my mouth, tore through an order of well-done french fries, and wondered what exactly John 3:16 says, I felt almost like Harold and Kumar at White Castle.
One of these days I'll get some webspace and I'll post some pictures of my car, as well as of that convertible I got upgraded to a couple of weeks ago. Oh, speaking of webspace, my name is now up on the
Berkeley stats website.
