I just finished mixing the USAISAMONSTER's new record. For those of you who aren't nostalgic about Sr. Hi 2002, or don't know this band already from Beloit in 2003 (they still have the poster Neil Hamburger autographed), or don't know the band for whatever reason it is that people don't know bands, the USAisAMonster is totally righteous punks-playing-prog or prog-punk or something. It's psychadelic, riffy, and deep as the sea. For this new record, they've abandoned some of their old monster techniques and opted for a huge production instead. The track counts were always over 30; there are so many layers of guitars and synths it really blows my mind. They made it with Korg and Arp synths, borrowed drums with borrowed mics, a real bass, a real guitar, and the demo of the Waves API bundle, which is spectacular.

I'm realing. I don't know how detailed I can be, because my brain seems to have given up detail for now, but these guys live in this surreal and beautiful loft. It's the kind of arty space that a little troglidite from the country like me dreams of. They have no money, and they do amazing work. There are definitely new options in my life. Maybe New York isn't so bad?
