A single girl walks along a highway by herself, carrying bags with some of her pride, some of her trust, some of her confidence, and some of her happiness inside. Her feet hurt from walking.
A boy drives down the highway with his chosen girl in the passenger seat. But they get into a fight, so he pulls over and kicks her out.
The boy keeps driving and eventually spots the single girl walking along the road, bags in hand. He slows down and offers her a ride.
She hesitates but he talks her into it. He promises her he’s a good boy.
She tosses one of her bags into the back and she and the boy drive down the road a ways. The girl is happy to have the company and not be walking anymore. The boy makes her smile and her feet start to feel better.
They pull into a rest stop. As they poke around in a convenience store, the boy says he's going to go back to the car for a moment.
While he's back at the car, and the single girl is still in the store, the girl that the boy had kicked out earlier shows up, having hitched a ride to the rest stop from the side of the road where he left her.
They talk, they reconcile. She gets into his car and they drive off together, happy again.
But the single girl is abandoned in the store. She returns to the parking lot to find the boy gone. No explanation… and some of her luggage is still in the boy's car. So the girl has lost some of her pride, trust, confidence and some of her happiness.
The girl walks along the road alone once more, even more wary of boys offering rides.
But she keeps walking. And she knows she'll find trust and pride again and more confidence and happiness as she travels... toward something better.
