Well, weird shit's going on, and I may as well write about it while I'm up.
First off, for those of you who don't know, I'm going to be moving to a 3rd shift job here, as of next tuesday. 8 at night to 4 in the morning, yeah, baby. The good news is, I'll actually be able to get more sleep working nights. Oh, and did I fail to mention, I'm gonna be a supervisor? Yep. I'm going to be the crew leader for Night Shift down at the Times. Promoted to full-time, getting a $4-an-hour raise, and I'll be in charge. God help us all.
On the subject, I would urge anybody and everybody to read "God's Debris" by Scott Adams. Yes, the Dilbert guy. But it's an absolutely amazing book, one of my personal favorites, and it's like a one-afternoon read. So go out and find a copy and read it (and, if you're feeling up to more, the sequel, "The Religion War," which is a lot like "God's Debris," except it has a plot). Then, give it to somebody whose intelligence you respect, or to somebody who you think needs to step back and really consider their belief system. Warning, however, for all you staunch-ass atheists: this is NOT an atheist book. It is decidedly theist, and argues a very workable idea of God. This should not be a problem for those of you who are most likely to read this- anybody who is true to the basic principles of atheism, specifically the importance of free thought and intelligence, should be able to read this book without too much discomfort. Anybody who can't... well, they REALLY should read it.
Anyway, I'm out. I'll talk at y'all later. And be prepared- I've been laying out an essay in my head for a while, and some of you may find yourselves reading "On Fundamentalist Atheism" in the near future.
