"Etymologia Nominis 'Navi'"
"The Etymology of the Name 'Navi'"
My search for Latin translations of the word fairy reminded me about the Latin translations of the Zelda and Zelda II games:
Finally, Zelda II Has Been Translated To Latin Not much later, I came upon the
Navi entry at Zeldapedia, the Legend of Zelda wiki.
Then I saw this nonsense:
Etymology
In Latin, the word "navi" means "float" or "fly", a possible origin for Navi's name. It could also be short for "navigation" or "navigator", as Navi helps Link throughout his adventure in ways similar to a ship's or aircraft's navigator assisting the captain.
There is no word navi in Latin.
There is navis, meaning "ship," and there is the inflected form (dative singular) navi, but neither means anything like "float" or "fly."
For "float" there are the Latin words volitre ("to float in the air") and fluitare ("to float on the water"), and for "fly" there is volare.
"Navi" sounds like it is short for "navigation" or "navigator," as the entry suggests. Both those English words are from Latin navigare, "to sail," from navis, "ship," and agere, "to drive".
