So no weddings for the gays in Texas. This is really sad because come on, how awesome would a gay Texas wedding be? If we follow the theory that everything is bigger in Texas, and gays do in fact have bigger-than-life-personalities, you can imagine what the festivities would have been like. Riding down the aisle on rainbow-draped unicorns and whatnot.
(hmmm, that's an idea for my wedding)
This is where we as a country have forgotten our roots. This nation was not, as most mistakenly believe, founded as a true democracy. It was founded as a republic. In a democracy, the people vote and the popular vote decides what is going to happen. This, of course, is what occured in Texas for the gay wedding ban; unfortunately it was NOT what happened 6 years ago in the presidential election. A republic is different. In a republic the people who make the decisions are voted in popularly, but they are voted in with the confidence that they will make decisions which will protect the rights of everyone.
Remember back in the late '60s when that wacky Supreme Court decided that, despite what the majority of southern voters decided, blacks should indeed have the same rights as whites? Yeah. That would be an example of not abiding by a popular vote in order to protect the rights of everyone.
This does not mean doing the bidding of ignorant, frightened people who hold their false spirituality close to their chests to maintain an even more false sense of superiority.
