Crown thy good with brotherhood
Today there will be no railing against the government (suprise, surprise), no Kobe Bryant jokes, no rock stars or secret societies.
Today there are only heroes.
People say, "Never forget." This is what we should not forget: the lines, blocks long, of people waiting to donate blood. The crowds on street corners cheering on the FDNY with signs saying simply, "Thank you." Congress acting like grown ups and being non-partisan for the ten minutes it took them to sing "God Bless America" on the Capitol steps. The impromptu memorials that sprung up at every firehouse in New York, the bags of socks and boots and plates of cookies, more than anyone could possibly use. We should never forget how unselfish we were as a society for that brief moment in time.
