I chose regret sort of randomly. I was basically trying to think of the emotion which seems most out of character with other animal behavior and is something that is seen in the majority of humans (i.e. not abnormal behavior). Regret just sort of stuck in my head. I certainly don't have the experience right now to say if it is most significant, but it's up there.

Empathy is a fun one, since its one of the requirements for most consciousness tests that are performed on animals. Great apes such as gorillas or chimps are widely considered to be empathetic, and I believe elephants are also seen as empathetic (although they're on the cusp) by some researchers.
