Mormon Resignation Update

About a month ago I finally mailed in a formal letter resigning my membership in the Mormon church.

A week ago, I received a reply back from the central Member Records division, claiming that they couldn't handle my request, and that they would forward it to the bishop of the local ward that they believe I belong to. Yesterday morning, I sent a ( Read more... )

I'm quite fond of the exmormon.org website.

This article on Mormon Women and Prozac very clearly sums up what it's like to be a woman in the mormon religion. I re-read this at least once a year, and every damn time it blows my mind.

The worst part was the quote from the woman about why she takes Prozac - the quote with all the hyphens and "um"s. :( I was trying to figure out what I'd do if I really believed that all I had to look forward to EVER was being a broodmare... shudder. The mind boggles.

The broodmare part is awful. But actually, what I think erodes the spirit of most women in the church is the continual sexism and devaluation. Even among the ones who don't have any or many children, and the ones who are well-educated.
