I've added you back. I should probably be a responsible adult and warn you about "adult concepts blah blah blah". I've no doubt you're mature enough to hang out here, but just in case, you are hereby warned! :)
Growing up on the left coast, I must confess that I don't have very much knowledge or exposure to Jewish culture. Although I did just recently read two books by Shalom Auslander, and holy shit those were funny! (And, quite scary actually!)
LOL, I forgot you were raised Mormon. Which explains why you probably *wouldn't* know any Jews. I, on the other hand, was part of one of the largest classes my synagogue had seen for YEARS. We had 18; the class a year younger had five. But this is in a place that only has one synagogue (to go with our thirty churches).
I should rescind my earlier statement: you are, as far as I know, quite responsible, and I am, as far as I can tell, quite mature. Except for the part where I find stereotypes hilarious and have no problem using them as a basis for humor.
Yeah, most of my knowledge of... jewry? (ok, I really hope that's not a bad word or anything) comes second-hand through my ex SAM who was born/raised in NY. He also claims that Asian Mothers are fairly close analogues of the famed Jewish Mother.
I try to be responsible and ethical. Mature? Nah, not so much!
Hehe. No, it's not a bad word. Yeah, I'd say Asian Mothers are probably pretty similar to Jewish Mothers. As long as you become a doctor, they'll be happy. I think of Jewish Mothers as being more melodramatic (and thereby passive-aggressive), and Asian Mothers as being more straightforward.
What's an ex SAM? (My brother's name is Sam. I presume you're not talking about him. ;) )

Is it sad that I had to do my internal north-south-east-west thing to figure out which coast was the LEFT one? Heh.
My dad's side of the family is from LA. :) (Dad's the Jew, Mom's the convert.)

Well actually, in my upbringing we colloquially referred to anyone non-Mormon as a "gentile". LOL!
