The first is sort of a pride thing because from what I've seen in the excerpts people are quoting this fic/novel is BAD FIC of the highest order and now non-fandom people are going to think it is representative of fanfic in general. There are some amazing authors writing high quality fanfic who I wish were getting the attention that this nonsense is generating. Of course I feel similarly about the Source/Inspiration material.
The second is an "Oh Shit, This much attention on Fanfic can't be good" thing. I have a hard time believing that increased attention on fanfic, particularly with this focus on making money from it, will be beneficial. I think it is highly probable that this will make content creators pay more attention to what fans are doing and how to protect their creations.
The third is related to the fact that I do think this situation is a complete betrayal of one of the founding tenant of Fandom - we do this for fun, not profit. There may be some instances where part of a previously published fanfic could be worked into a published original story w/o violating that ethos but from what I've heard and read this situation is not it.
