In which Publisher's Weekly makes me squeal like a little girl

When I saw this, I immediately squealed and flapped my hands and ran to tell Anah all about it.

I have been waiting for this book since I was in MIDDLE SCHOOL. (Well, not exactly. It turns out I actually missed the 4th book in the series, so now I have another book to read before the 5th and final book comes out next year.) But I am SO EXCITED. You have no idea.

I read Clan of the Cave Bear and Valley of the Horses and The Mammoth Hunters when I was in middle school in the very early 90s. Then I waited. And waited some more. And there was no Book Four to be found. Apparently it came out in 2002, but that was long after I'd given up hope, and so apparently I never heard about it.

So when that link came through my Twitter feed, alerting me to the upcoming final book in the series, I couldn't contain myself.

It's been a couple hours now, so I'm a little more coherent, but I LOVED those books. The depth of the research was so compelling to me, and the relationships and differences between the various societies were fascinating. I'll be picking up fresh copies of the whole series, I think, so I can prepare for next year's release.

(And just a note: Sometimes readers DON'T forget about a series when there's a long gap between the books. But sometimes, like what happened with me and the 4th book, they don't find out... so this is probably not a good model to follow.)

read 'em and weep, lifestyles of the poor and infamous
