Do corsets nowadays create the same breathing problems they used to? Because if they do, I can't imagine that being very practical (though it looks awesome).

It's possible to breathe as long as you don't lace a corset too tightly. I still wouldn't actually wear one for end-of-the-world shenanigans though because they don't allow for maximum cardio.
Yeah, my ability to run for my life is already restricted by my asthma and general lack of fitness; I wouldn't want my clothes to contribute to it. (That's why I never, ever wear heels, by the way.)
