Teddy set his book aside and looked up at the oddest sound.
"What was that?" he asked.
Billy froze, mid-step, on his way to the bedroom. "What was what?"
"That noise. It sounded like, like, I don’t know, a muffled cat."
Teddy cocked his head and observed his boyfriend.
"Mom asked me to keep an eye on Stacy and she had kittens and he’s really cute, isn’t he? And I’m calling him Mesmer," Billy said hopefully.
"Your mom sent a cat home?" Teddy asked, watching the proffered kitten with more than a bit of trepadition.
"Yeah. She said she was going to have to send him to the pund because all the others got claimed and she couldn’t afford to keep two cats."
Teddy sighed. "I guess we have a new member of the family, then."
Mesmer meeped at him.
"Meep to you, too."
