Watching Teddy die slowly was worse than anything. It was worse than pain, worse than silence, worse than constant fear… If it hadn’t been for Xavin, they never would have gotten out.
When they did, though, he dragged Teddy into the bushes to make sure he was all there. They held each other for a long time.
"Maybe we should stop this," he suggested quietly.
"If we stop now, it’ll all have been for nothing," Teddy replied gently. "And besides, the registration side will still come for us."
Billy sighed, looking over the cuts that had almost cost him Teddy and his sanity, and hated knowing he was right.
