Summary: Geoffrey's screwed up.

062: Fear

It had been a long day and it would be a long night. What he’d done had ensured that.

Geoffrey shuddered and pulled his knees to his chest, ignoring the cold and the fact that he was sitting in his car. He couldn’t drag himself into a position to drive and he couldn’t bring himself to go back inside.

Every car that passed was her father. Every human that passed was her.

Catherine tapped on his window and waited, trembling, for him to open the door. He was forcibly reminded that a bad day was no reason to fly off the handle at her. He popped the locks and she climbed in beside him.

“Hey,” he croaked. Her chin was swelling under the bruise.

“Hey,” she replied. His feet found the floor and he watched her from the corner of his eye.

It was a long moment before the silence between them broke. She shifted. He raised his head and made to look at her dead on.

“I’m sorry,” he breathed. “I’m so sorry.”

Geoffrey reached out to touch her face. She flinched.

“I’m sorry,” she mumbled.

“Are you… Are you okay?”

She nodded and studied her toes. “I love you, Geoff,” she began. Swallowed hard. “I love you but if you pull something like this again, I’m not going to stick around.”

He nodded and dropped his eyes. “I’m so sorry. I love you so much.”

She slid closer to him and slipped a hand into one of his. “Let’s go inside,” she suggested. “It’s cold out here and I’m tired.”

He followed her out of the car and popped the locks behind them. Wrapped an arm around her shoulders. Went inside and left the cold and the pain on the sidewalk.
