28: What’s happening?
He passed her the popcorn and settled in beside her.
“What’d I miss?” he asked, taking a handful of the caramel coated stuff.
“Nothing they didn’t do without a fog machine,” she replied. “Something about a ghost, and hell, and something else I didn’t quite catch, but now there’s a psychic involved.”
Frank stared at the screen and tried to catch up. He’d honestly thought she’d find Poltergeist more entertaining than she had, but he’d been wrong before, and it looked like he was wrong again now. Some days he wondered why he didn’t just give up.
The movie ended relatively quickly, and they left before the credits had a chance to roll.
“Is there something you’d rather see while we’re here and have popcorn left?” he asked, following her down the hall.
“No.”
“Something you’d like to do?”
“No.”
“Somewhere you’d like to go?”
“No.”
Frank sighed and wished she’d just tell him what she wanted. It was so hard to guess all the time.
“Want to go for a ride?” he asked, hopeful through his despair.
She paused. “You driving?”
“If you want me to.”
Leslie nodded and let him lead her to the car.
