So, I knit. (duh)
And, because i knit, I've accumulated stuff. I have something that winds the yarn up, I have tons of needles, tons of yarn, tons of little doodads like counters and markers and whatnot.
I even have some spinning stuff. It's languishing now, since I don't really spin unless I have a few days of nothing going on, but it's there, and I get it out regularly.
But, I don't have
a swift. I buy yarn that comes in hanks, usually, and that makes it hard to knit right off of, so I have to wind it into a ball. This usually involves me unwinding it very carefully onto the floor, and then winding it onto my ball winder carefully and slowly so it doesn't tangle. This takes me about an hour, usually.
Thankfully, I came across
this site, which introduced me to a swift via tinkertoys.
This is awesome. It's not as good as anything on that site above-I have to watch it carefully so it doesn't spin off the table, but it cost me less than $20, and has plenty of parts extra leftover in case there's an accident and a piece breaks.
Sweet.
It took me about 15 minutes to get it set up and wind a fairly large ball of sock yarn. Wee!
