So we’ve been in Australia for a week now and while this week has gone by pretty quickly, it feels like we’ve been here forever, and still feels like we have tons of time to (which is in fact kind of true since I leave six weeks from today). Thankfully tomorrow is Friday as I need at least one day of sleeping past 7:15. Work is definitely enjoyable, and people seem to be opening up a little bit more now. The guy that sits on the other side of my desk, Zach, is really talkative and friendly. I’m certainly enjoying my time there and the day doesn’t really drag on which is nice.
Last night we - the entire group - went out to a few bars, Mai Tai II and a place near work called the Hippo Lounge. I like the Hippo Lounge a lot, although it took FOREVER to get our drinks after we ordered them. Maybe the bar tender was new, but it took a good 5 or 10 minutes for him to make me a cosmopolitian.
I made a list of stuff I want to do while I’m here, so hopefully I’ll get all of it done. I still haven’t decided what I’m going to do about traveling around the country, although right now I’m feeling that I would like to come back with Steve at some point. I’m also thinking that I’d really like to travel when I get back - I really want to go to Vancouver after talking about it with Arvind at work. I was talking with Rebecca today, and it’s so strange that most people in Australia spend a lot of time abroad, not like the small percentage of Americans that do it during college. Rebecca told me she spent 6 years abroad, spending time in the US and Britain. I would like to get back to London too…
I guess now that I’m doing fine away from home it seems easier to think about traveling elsewhere. I guess I’ll figure it all out at some point…
Beyond that, there’s nothing really exciting happening. I’m not sure where Jess is and I really should do some laundry, but I don’t have the right change for it. Blasted $3 per load of laundry!
