so as usual, i have nothing really important to say, just a couple of things to comment on...
i'm looking for an internship for the fall. thus far it's been interesting. i had an interview last week that basically followed this format:
them: do you know how to do this?
me: no
them: but you know how to do this, right?
me: no
them: well, we guess that's ok, do you know how to do this?
me: no
repeat about 4 times, and there you have it. it was absolutely awful. maybe it was my fault, but I feel the need to attribute some to the lack of information provided by the job posting on the U of M site, and the woman who i set up the interview with providing no information (i DID send her my resume, so I'm not sure why i got selected to come in for an interview if I didn't have any of the skills they were looking for).
but i did have another interview today, which went much better, and i think i would like this position much better anyway (from the other interview I got the idea that they'd basically like someone to work part time for free). and I was much more prepared, and they seemed to like me, but hey you never know.
in regards to recent events...
i'm really happy for the progression of homosexuals. I don't know if I'm just a forward thinker, but I just have no grasp on how people believe that marriage has to be between a man and a woman. maybe my parents just raised me to be non-judgmental, or maybe I'm just an overall idealist, but I just think marriage should be about love and support. who cares about whose involved? for the first time I'm actually scared that these people that are so homophobic (as in those who think it's bad, wrong, and their immorality is corrupting our country) are making progress in politics. what really pissed me off was a quote by some guy (i can't remember if it was a priest or the head of an "anti" gay rights organization) who said that the idea of marriage could only be accepted if it was a man and a woman was "nonnegotiable." who died and you made the ruler of such decisions? that statement reminds me of when i was a toddler and i wanted something but my mom would say no, and then if I argued she would say "the discussion is closed." obviously at that point my mother had power over me (and she still does to some extent) but who is this guy to decide that its "nonnegotiable?" GRAR...
but anyway...for now, I'm happy with the decisions by the courts and by the Episcopalian church, and hopefully the rest of the nation will one day get their heads out of their asses and realize that marriage is about so much more than the union of a man and a woman.
i'm sure i offended someone with that paragraph. but that's the way I think, so deal.
on a lighter note...
am I'm the only one who has been subjected to sitting in traffic due to NEEDLESS road construction? Cases in point:
in the spring they closed down 94 from Minneapolis to St. Paul (between 280 and like Lexington or something) to repaint the bridges. Seriously! Does anyone pay attention to the bridges? I can't believe they're wasting my tax dollars on something like that!
currently, 35W south is restricted to two lanes both ways between 280 and Stinson Blvd. They're redoing the median. Maybe i'm uninformed regarding this project, but I definitely saw no problem with the median they tore down to build a new one. Anyone have more information on this?
Highway 96 between 35W and Lexington is one lane each direction so they could tear up one side of the road, that to my eyes, had no problems. currently, they're pushing around the dirt, which I'm guessing will go on for at least another 3 to 4 weeks. If they REALLY wanted to put that money to good use, they could repave lexington between 96 and 694 - does anyone who drives that stretch know where the lanes are?
alright...those are my thoughts for now! I'm off to bed!
Goodnight all!
