Almost everything I know about beauty came from geometry class

You read that title correctly.

Mrs. Martha Kearney, my first geometry teacher (yes, I had to take it twice because I didn't understand some of it the first time even though Mrs. Kearney was a wonderful teacher!), taught me just about everything I need to know about beauty when it comes to being a person of a multi-cultural background. You see, she is of African and Cherokee descent. Her face was almost flawless even without make-up, her hair always looked good (and she did not believe in weaves, that I knew of), and she dressed to impress even when she wasn't wearing "church clothes". Best thing of all, in my eyes? Her soul was young, and it showed. She looked to be in her late 40's or early 50's, and yet at that time, she told us she was in her 70's!!

I was in awe!

One day, after she had finished her lesson for the day, one of my classmates asked her about her "beauty secrets". Honestly, I would have jotted down what she had to say, word-for-word, because I was VERY interested! I wanted to know how I could look that good when I got to be her age.

This is what she taught us ...

1) You don't need a plastic surgeon to repair (or prevent, depending on your age) lines and wrinkles. Get yourself a jar of Vaseline jelly (store brand is ok; it's the same thing) and/or a bottle of Oil of Olay. That's all you need.

2) Beauty comes from within, and always has. You can look like a supermodel on the outside, but if you don't take care of the inside too (meaning watch what you eat, exercise, etc), the outer shell will soon follow.

3) Why is it that hardly anyone is hesitant to put on a condom before sex, but they gripe so much of the few minutes it takes to apply sunscreen so they go without to achieve that copper glow? Just remember; noone likes getting it on with an alligator!

4) Laugh at least three times a day. Noone else has to find what humors you funny ...this is just for you.

5) If it's not important, don't stress over it. This saves you money on hair color AND therapy!

6) Yes, true beauty has a face ...yours!

beauty, mrs. kearney
