21. Vacation
“Hound, why is my schedule completely cleared for the entire week?” Mirage asked, marching into their quarters.
“What makes you think it was me?”
“I checked, you’re off schedule for the week as well.”
Hound grinned sheepishly. “I wanted to surprise you. I thought we could use a break, all to ourselves. Maybe explore Earth a little or something. Visit the sites, whatever we want.”
“I’m guessing by the stockpile on our berth you’ve been packing for the both of us.”
Hound nodded, appearing a little embarrassed.
Mirage smiled in affection and kissed him. “Thank you, Hound.”
22. Mother Nature
Hound growled at the helplessly laughing Mirage. “It’s not that funny.”
“Yes! Yes it is!” Mirage gasped, curled up on the ground, arms curled over his abdominal plating, still laughing his aft off. Normally Hound would’ve been happy to see Mirage let his inhibitions loose like this, but right now it was kind of annoying.
“You wouldn’t be laughing if it was happening to you.”
“But it’s not!”
The animal control officer trying to capture the family of shrews making Hound’s engine their new home couldn’t help but stare at the giant robot laughing like a lunatic on the ground.
23. Cat
“You used to have a pet?” Hound asked, staring at the holo-photo in Mirage’s hands. The mech in the photo was smaller, younger, holding a silver painted cybercat in his arms.
“Yes, is that a surprise?”
“Kinda… What was his name?”
“Her name was Crystal. She hated almost everyone she came across, which was sort of funny to watch actually. She liked me though. It was nice having someone, even a mecha-animal, think of you as the most important person in their lives.”
Hound rubbed his shoulder. “You still are that important to someone.”
24. No Time
“We shouldn’t,” Mirage said softly, sitting in Hound’s lap. Large black fingers were settled on his hips, the spy’s own hands gripping Hound’s shoulders. “What if one of us dies? I saw what a lost bonded did to the partner left behind.”
“If we didn’t bond, and I lost you tomorrow, I’d still be just as miserable. The only difference is we wouldn’t have this. We’ve got so little time Mirage, I want us to be as close as two bots can be. I know you do too.”
Mirage slowly agreed, this moment with Hound was worth all of eternity.
25. Trouble Lurking
He silently slinked through the trees, watching his oblivious target. The mech seemed to be happily taking in the quiet and serenity of the nature surrounding him. He took notice of every bright flower and chittering animal he came across. For an alien robot, he seemed very at home in this strange organic world.
It was so perfect a sight, he almost hated to ruin it. With a graceful leap he tackled the other mech, knocking him to the ground, grinning triumphantly as he revealed himself.
“Primus Mirage! Don’t scare me like that! Almost gave me spark failure.”
“Sorry, Hound.”
26. Tears
“Wh-why? Why Hound?” Mirage asked, stricken.
“I’m sorry Mirage, I really did like you. You’re a great mech and I had a good time while it lasted, but I realize now you just aren’t for me. Maybe I’ll see ya around.”
Mirage tried to grab onto him, but Hound was slipping away. “Hound, please don’t leave!”
“What’s wrong, Mirage? Wake up.”
Mirage awoke from stasis, the dream still clinging to his conscious. “Hound?” He stared, almost not believing his optics. He latched onto Hound. “Don’t leave, please don’t ever leave me,” he begged with distressed clicks.
“Never,” Hound promised.
27. Foreign
“I don’t understand what’s wrong, all we did was kiss. I thought it was acceptable in human society.” Hound said as he, Spike, and Mirage walked away from the city park and the angry ranting of some other humans. If he weren’t a giant robot, he might have been worried by them.
“Sorry guys, it’s not the kissing thing. Some- well a lot of people just have problems with two guys, or girls, kissing.”
“But we’re not ‘guys’, we’re robots,” Mirage said, confused. Although he couldn’t help wondering why it would even matter if they were anyway.
28. Sorrow
Hound couldn’t help tensing as Mirage kissed him. It had been the first time since Mirage had lost his memories. Sensing Hound’s discomfort, Mirage backed away.
“I’m sorry,” he said softly. He turned to leave, and Hound quickly grabbed his arm.
“Don’t, please Mirage. What brought that on?”
“You’re my mate… I thought you’d like it if I kissed you.” Might like me, echoed silently between them. “Even though I don’t remember you, my spark still aches when you won’t look at me.”
Slowly, Hound drew Mirage into a hug. “I’m sorry, ‘Raj. Somehow, we’ll make this work.”
29. Happiness
Hound was frozen, staring at Mirage in silence. The spy shifted on his pedes in worry. Perhaps Hound was unhappy with the news, maybe he didn’t wan-
Mirage yelped as Hound grabbed and held him close, twirling Mirage around in a circle several times, all the while laughing in joy. “Really?” He asked, optics burning bright, setting Mirage down, but still holding him close.
Mirage smiled. “Yes.” He pulled one of Hound’s hands over where his spark chamber lay under protective plating. “Your spark, and mine.”
Hound pulled him into a passionate kiss. “Ours,” he reaffirmed when they pulled apart.
30. Under the Rain
“Mirage? What’re you doing out here? I know you like the rain, but it’s also dark and cold, which you usually don’t like.”
“I couldn’t stay in there.”
“The rec room? They were talking slag. Jazz and I yelled at them for you.”
“The Towers are gone, most of it’s residents are dead. I wish they could be left in peace now. I know many weren’t always good mechs. But- they talk as though all of them were irredeemable.”
“They don’t know any better. It wouldn’t hurt to tell them.”
Mirage let Hound lead him out of the rain. “Perhaps.”
Woot! My eggs are almost hatched! In celebration, I got another egg.
