Preface: I like stupid AU's. Most of the reason I write is because there are a lot of ideas in my head and nobody else is ever going to do them, sadly. 8D (Which means I don't technically like most of my fic for being any good, but whatever. xD xD As long as they're amusing enough I am happy.)

...many characters are kemonomimi, and not only the conventional catgirls - cat features (ears and tails) are universal from birth, so there are as many catboys, including the protagonist. Those who no longer have the animal features are differentiated by society as "adults" who've lost their virginity, illustrating an underlying theme about sexuality in society.

On his first day at his new school, twelve-year-old Ritsuka Aoyagi met a mysterious twenty year-old male named Soubi Agatsuma. He claimed to be a good friend of Ritsuka's brother, Seimei, who had been recently murdered. Upon the inspection of Seimei's abandoned computer files, Ritsuka discovered that an organization called 'Septimal Moon' (, Nanatsu no tsuki?) was responsible for Seimei's death.
As Ritsuka quickly discovered, Seimei and Soubi acted as a pair involved in spell battles invoked by carefully selected words. Now Soubi is Ritsuka's 'sentouki', or Fighter Unit, and Ritsuka is his 'Sacrifice'. Together, they challenge Septimal Moon to find out the truth behind Seimei's murder and the reason for Ritsuka's amnesia and form an intimate bond as they unravel the mystery.
--that's the manga plot anyway. xD There are a lot of pairs; a fighter can only have one sacrifice, and vice versa. (Soubi was first a fighter for Seimei, then later for Ritsuka -- the other pairs thought he was a traitor for it.)
The spell battles are my favourite part. *_* Two pairs fight each other. The sacrifice generally gives their fighter orders. (A good fighter obeys their sacrifice; the sacrifice lends the fighter power. the closer/more in sync/trusting they are, the more power they can share and the stronger they become.)
a battle is started with the challenge "(battle) systems engage" and an "accept". they fight sort of turn-based, with wordspells. "In a spell, the fighter conjures an image in his mind and creates it by speaking it in words. The image-into-word is what manifests real power. The faster and more varied the connections, the more powerful the attack." -vol 5.
Because it's a mental thing, fighters have styles and favoured attacks. one of the bad guys casts things like, "the night is my ally; night surrounds; let no one escape from the darkness. night. shroud." and soubi replies with, "i protect the light. i do not fear darkness. recede. dispell."
...one battle went something like, um. "dark shroud." -> "fire, burn shroud. create light." -> "vacuum. no fire. it's dark as space." -> "stars shine. there is no darkness." successful attacks manifest in wounds and 'restrictions' upon the opposing sacrifice (usually drawn as chains/cuffs/collars/blindfolds and stuff because kouga yun is a twisted mangaka ♥)...
a battle is over when one of the pairs is unable to go on. either by a loss of consciousness, or the sacrifice suffering absolute restriction. (randomly, a forfeit is worse than a loss, as it also means the forfeit of the name and the existence of the unit as a pair.)
Um. xD in the series, fighters study at the academy while their sacrifice is sought out. (it doesn't always happen like clockwork though.) -- the thing about the zero units is that they're "manufactured"; the fighters are trained and paired with any sacrifice. if the sacrifice becomes a hinderance, they're replaced. they have no names and are all called "zero".
. . . . ahh, crash course in the loveless universe. 8D;; which is possibly more confusing than helpful, but uhh. :D i'd say read it if you can. xD the concept is kind of awesome, and kouga yun's art is gorgeous. so. *nods* in a nutshell: there are OTPs destined pairs, and words have power.

And so... like, do the ears and tails just fall off after sex? So everyone is like "you got laid last night?"
And sacrifices command their fighter... but the fighter makes it happen? And then the sacrifices are the ones affected?

And yeah, everyone can tell when someone's got some for the first time. xD; It's pretty bad. (Unless they wear fake ears/tail, but even then they're inanimate, so...)
The sacrifices command, and the fighters make it happen, yeah. The fighters can attack (the other sacrifice) or defend (to protect their sacrifice). Attacks can be wordspells, physical attacks (...you're more than welcome to throw things or just go up and sock somebody in the face. but it's kind of inefficient), or attacks on the psyche (like, if your opponent is depressed and you say, "god, you're pathetic. >:3" ...and they believe it, that'll also restrict them. xD)...
There's at least a battle every volume if you're interested in just seeing what it looks like. xD

For this drabble, I was thinking Senga. :D Just because I can't really see Senga ordering Nikaido around and Nikaido just taking it. On the other hand, if Nikaido were the fighter and selectively defiant about Senga's orders, it would be amusing amounts of fail in their partnership... (Senga's orders themselves would be half fail.) and they have said they argue a lot. xD Hm... 8D

Hmm. But is Senga good with words? I imagine Senga being kind of fail at either position, but at least Nika can speak well.
Having read some more of the manga now... I'd personally see Nika as the fighter, I think. Senga seems sort of fail, but strong, and he could take the damage. Nika is super protective and would give his life to protect Senga. I think he'd follow Senga's orders (mostly), although he may not be thrilled about it. Senga has complete control anyway, because he has Nika around his pinky. Nika likes to think he's in charge, but he'd totally do anything for Senga and that's where he loses. ;D
PS - Uchi con? Nika was super fail at monomone for one show, so he made up for it the next one by being a complete shameless slut.

Yeah... 8D To be honest, I was totally thinking the same thing in hindsight. Nika would totally be the protective one, and Senga's always picked on... *dies* xD I want to change Tottsu+Mitsu's name to Sleepless, too.

i did. xD silver_lined and i are still working on the 'verse, slowly but surely. but yeah, it definitely works better with nikaido as the fighter. >:D he would pretty much belong to senga. and it'd be up to senga to use him properly. ♥ heh.
