Anyway, I'd been knocking around the idea of SpacePirates!Kismai/ABC/MA for a while now, but then... partly due to snowqueenofhoth and the X-Wing thing, and partly because of the whole deal with Shoon (POSSIBLY) attaching to ABC... I thought, hey. 12 people. That's a squadron, isn't it?

Yokoo: executive officer. Joined the Academy to prove himself, but the half-squadron he had originally trained with (ref. J-SUPPORT) earned their wings without him, because he was STILL TOO SMALL TO FLY, BACK THEN (15yo still no growth spurt. LOL). And so he trained in executive officer-type duties (ref. book-keeping degree). And now that he's flying, he's still the squadron's XO (ref. his cleanliness fetish, harhar). <-Nawara Ven.
Kitamitsu: defied his mother's wishes and ran away to join the Academy. Think of something better, but for now: He's only happy when he's flying to protect her happiness (LOL), and people like them. (ref. "I want a job that makes people happy."; only son, single mother.)
Nikaido: sent off to the Academy by his family as soon as it'd accept his application. Because they didn't have high hopes for him at all (unlike his older sister); thought he might as well make himself useful if he could. (ref. his high score in japanese -> parents' reaction, "Cheating is bad!" ahaheafksrtg) <-jokes about it, but sticks to Yokoo as if he's the big brother he never had.
Senga: also sent off to the Academy by his family (mother) as soon as it'd accept his app. But for the polar opposite of Nikaido. His mother had high hopes for him to become awsm&famous ever since he was wee -- he'd had simulator time ever since his feet could reach the controls (ref. first son; dance lessons since 3yo, haa).
Shoon: (Donos) the ranking officer transferred in from another squadron, though Nobody Knows Why. Initially, at least.

edit: ACTUALLY, on the wingpairs:
-- Kitamitsu+Senga; because Senga is a child prodigy and can keep up with Mitsu's flying. But also needs Mitsu to keep him alive, because he can be Very Stupid.
-- Yokoo+Nikaido; just get along very well (ref. "he's like a brother to me").
-- Fujigaya+Miyata; ALSO JUST GET ALONG VERY WELL. xD; But for entirely different reasons. Miyata can't quite keep up with Fujigaya's flying sometimes, but doesn't mind that Fujigaya sometimes puts him in Epic Danger. (he's a very happy guy! harhar)
-- Shoon+Tamamori; Shoon is most senior/experienced of all of them (ranking! lt.), while Tama-chan is most junior. Also, this way Tamamori won't get picked on. *lol*
-- ABC need no explanation. It'd be either Kawai+Gocchi/Tottsu+Tsuka, or Kawai+Tottsu/Gocchi+Tsuka, depending on if sorted by "seniority" (ie. enbujou vs dream boys) or division (... ie. enbujou vs dream boys). Guess it doesn't really matter since they're ABC after all, efksdgjtfyum... hay, maybe they used to be some small tactical unit (ref. dream boys' clowns) but are now being assimilated into... uhm. hurr. who knows. ;;
TOSHIN: THE FALLEN COMRADE. xD He used to hang with ABC's flight, buuut is No Longer With Them. *sporfle* Poor Toshin. ;;;
