In-Character Information
Name (and age if applicable): Goombario, 14
Series: Paper Mario
Occupation (if applicable): Student at some middle school somewhere (I-I feel as though I should have noticed something about that by now). Also searching for another dojo to join.
Personality: Goombario is very much into heroics. Having been raised by a once-adventurer and a bunch of Mario fanatics, he is dead-set on following the paths of those before him. Although he's not foolish enough to see things in true black-and-white, his line between good and bad is a little more solid than it should be. That said, his heart is in the right place, and he'd never refuse a call to journey.
He also has the benefit of being a snarker. Goombario is well-versed in sarcasm, and will drop in mocking if he feels it should be dropped. Friends and respectable elders are the only ones immune to a scathing remark, and even then they might earn some light ribbing (unless it's his parents and grandparents -- he's learned the hard way that never goes over well). Goombario is aware of cliches, and may end up pointing them out if they somehow apply to the situation.
There are rare moments when Goombario actually gets depressed. It would usually require something big going on that threatens his very views on the world. Still, even at his worst, Goombario can't be withdrawn for long. At his core, he's a happy, albeit sarcastic and over-confident, kid.
Backstory: Mario is popular, and it does not take much to figure that out. Even those working under Bowser occasionally choose to instead follow the plucky, stout man. Among these were many Goombas, who went to establish their own village while Bowser was busy fighting Mario -- this was one of the first of many showdowns the two would have. While many of those Goombas went further into the woods and made their own rules, some chose to settle down for a calmer style of life. Many felt thankful and indebted to Mario for indirectly letting them leave, and two of those bigger fans, with a child on the way at the time, chose to raise their family here (with help from the grandparents). They had a son, and to honor the plumber hero, they named him Goombario.
Unsurprisingly, Goombario was fated to also become a huge fanatic of Mario's. Throughout the years, as Mario rose to superstar status, Goombario would hang on every shred of news. He dreamed of one day being as great as his namesake. Fending off Piranha Plants, having showdowns on bridges surrounded by lava, saving princesses... It was the future he wished so much for.
It should be noted that Mario was not the only big influence in his life. His grandfather, Goompa, had also been quite the adventurer in his day, seeing things most other people only saw in storybooks. Mario had sparked Goombario's heroism, but it was Goompa that really gave him a thirst for adventure.
The two went hand-in-hand, and Goombario needed two more things to be on his way to his goal. One of those was knowledge. Books became a constant in his life, filling in the gaps on information that Goompa couldn't fill. Spending time studying didn't dull Goombario's views of other people, though, and it actually gave him a keener sense of picking up details. Even as his family turned their attentions to doting on his baby sister, he was content with a book to read, some people to watch, or some gossip to remember.
As stated, he required four things for his goal. He had the heroic justice, the desire to strike out on his own, and the knowledge to back him up. He was missing one thing: the opportunity to be put to the test.

Much fanboygasming ensued, and Goombario would have been content to have just been able to talk to Mario. Goompa, however, knew that there might not have been another chance like this. Goombario was mature enough, at any rate.
The next thing he knew, he had become Mario's first ally in the quest to save Princess Peach, the Star Spirits, and the whole kingdom.
This was better than Christmas, birthdays, and summer vacation rolled together.
The duo would eventually be joined by many others, whom Goombario saw as close friends (and maybe even one or two sibling figures). They stormed fortresses of the corrupt, traveled through haunted woods, escaped erupting volcanoes, and walked alongside rivers of Eldstar-knows-what in sewers (Goombario...didn't exactly like that part of the adventure much).
Inevitably, the rescue was successful, and soon things were returned to the way they were. Goombario went back home to a hero's welcome. Once all the celebration was done and over with, though, something seemed missing. He decided that, to fix this, he would enroll as a full-time member of Toad Town's dojo. As the second youngest of Mario's troupe, he still had a lot of potential waiting to be tapped.
Cut to several years later. A nine-year-old kid had become a thirteen-year-old derp. Goombario hadn't quite shaken off all his immaturity yet.
Thus, when told his family was going to move away to a city somewhere, he responded just as well, all but kicking and screaming the whole way.
As it turned out, a lot of the reasoning as trying to give Goombario and his sister a better education. They both were doing very well in their classes at the Toad Town schools, but they needed something that was more well-known so that they had a better chance at being noticed in the future. The schools in Diamond City seemed to cover everything they needed. Two months prior to the start of the RP, the family left the home they had helped found and lived in for fourteen years, getting a fresh start in the city.
What brings this person to Diamond City?: Goombario had moved to Diamond City a few months ago in pursuit of an expanded education. Although he plans to return to Toad Town once he's done with school, he's warmed up to the city a little. The part where they give younger people even more freedom than back home may have helped.
Misc. Notes: -To all future Marioverse appers: If there's anything you need changed, like the timeline or Goombario's relationship with someone, I'm flexible with changing things.
-Crushes on 40% of all females ever (this would include Bombette, if anyone plans to app her -- not looking for reciprocation). May or may not also be gay for Mario. Okay in all serious that's a no.
-His Tattle ability is actually only limited to stuff he already heard. He doesn't have anything like Goombella's book.
-Yes, he has been trying to get a human form. For the past few weeks he's been trying to focus on improving his FP use so that he doesn't burn through everything in two minutes.
-As a Goomba, he uses a combination of voice recognition and careful typing to put up his journals, although he sometimes makes errors with pronunciation and doesn't fix them, and this even's even talking about all the punctuation he needs to fix. Just another reason he's trying to get to the seminars ASAP.
-His birthday is March 15, so he just turned fourteen.
In-Character Example Post: I forgot why i dint want to make a journal before now. This is stupid ya know? I had to make that question mark myself and the other punctuation too. Commas can just go jump off a cliff or something for now i dunno. Gotta press enter too.
Keepin this short. The next person who tries to use me like a football his getting headbonked. In the face. Somehow. Dont judge me.
I am in need of hands. Very very soon. Cant be that hard to use em right?
