this is undoubtedly more fun than revision.

I follow a xanga where a girl posts awesome pictures. I've decided to start writing one drabble of original fiction a day, inspired by one of those pictures. Here's the first one.

one.

"Oh, my God. You didn't."

"Um, it's pretty obvious that I did."

He flinched as she traced the design with her fingers.

"Sorry, does that hurt?"

"Yeah." There was a silence. "So…what do you think?"

She stared at her hands. He did too. She was wearing dark blue nail varnish. The shade was called 'Sargasso Sea' - he knew, because he'd bought it for her on a whim last time he was walking past the make up department in the shopping centre where he worked. She'd laughed when he gave it to her, teasingly asking him if she now should be worried about male competition for his affections, too. He had rolled his eyes and kissed her, inwardly marvelling at the fact she thought she had any kind of competition.
She hadn't worn any other nail varnish since.

But now she still hadn't replied to his question and he was beginning to get nervous.

"I'm sorry if you don't like it," he said quickly, "it's just, I thought you would, I mean, you seemed to like the idea when I brought it up before." He was aware that he was rambling, but the longer she was silent, the more anxious he became. He was starting to feel sick.

Then she looked up at him. Her eyes were full of tears.

Oh shit.

"They're beautiful," she murmured.

And he realised that they weren't bad tears at all.

She stretched out arm and took his hand, so their forearms were side by side, the newly engraved birds on his arm a mirror image of the one on her own wrist.

And then she kissed him.

If anyone wants to join me and write their own drabble for the picture, then that would be really, really awesome :)
