i have taken to sitting in starbucks with a coffee and drawing in my sketchbook. usually i go there with sophie so we just talk, but our classes and exam schedules clash a lot and i don't really have many friends in the city so i'm alone a lot. but starbucks gives me a chance to practice three of my favourite pastimes: drawing, drinking coffee (always grandes at least, talls are for wimps), and smiling at baristas.
also i like to listen to the french people talking. it makes me realise that a C in high school french is of little use in the real world. i speak starbucks better than i speak french. i like to order complicated drinks to keep the baristas on their toes (if you're not familiar with this, the trick is not to wait for them to ask what size or if you want it to go or want whipped cream, etc. you include everything your order, all in one sentence, and all in the same breath if possible.)

also, i keep having silent conversations with myself while drawing.
i see you're drawing an amusing illustration of a talking frappuchino cup asking to be refilled, whilst drinking your 2nd venti peppermint mocha and listening to your ipod
yes. the frappuchino is talking through its straw!
that's nice. and you're listening to death cab?
that is correct.
how cliche of you.
thanks.
do you know your hands are shaking?
yes i do.

i got another job designing another website, i plan to use the money to buy a live unicorn and possibly some shoes.
