The post meeting update...
As I was subtly reminded by someone, I hadn't posted an after meetng update...
We drove in from the north side into Okeechobee from SR 70 and found the place, Beef O'Brady's about right on time... We got the seats and had our drinks about 2-3 minutes before they showed up, and it was interesting seeing how he'd changed... First thing I noticed was his haircut... Almost shaved on 1 side and longer on the other.. his story was that he'd gotten it cut at the same time as his buddy and the people at the place thought he wanted the same cut... A, on the other hand ... Shy, apparantly well mannered, and in an outfit that reminded me a lot of my ex at first... In fact, when I sent the pic I took of her to my ex, she said I was right on how much alike they looked... and mentioned something about dipping herself in bleach with the heebie jeebies she'd gotten from the resemblance.. lol
The lunch/dinner went fine, with each of us giving the other little updates, and discussions about his court fines and related issues... While my dad, yes, he went along, showing her family albums of when I was a baby so she would have an idea what her soon to be son would look like and the trouble he might cause... thanks dad...
After the meal, we went a little further south to go to the very norther tip of Lake O. I ended up giving him crap about the habit he still has (smoking) and generally bs'ing about the area and how things had been going...
We reminded S about how he shouldn't be pushing the time, since he had to go to work after a bit, and ended up giving her some presents for the baby (a fully stocked diaper bag and more diapers) and my dad gave her a present also... I'm not at liberty to say what, other than her eyes widened a bit when he did...
On the way back, we started to go the way we came, but one in our group was having issues and needing a restroom soon and we saw a sign for the turnpike... and made a right hand turn down SR710. We ended up going further down the Florida map than I even wanted to go... We came in at a 45 degree angle from the northeast and ended up going away at a 45 degree angle to the southeast... I guess that will teach me to not look at a full map of the area before I go and will make sure I don't do it again the next time...
Of course, now that it's over, we've become friends on facebook and I'm sure she's looked mine over like I did her's... and I gather that some of her friends are none too fond of my son... Not that I'm suprised by that at all...
Now, she's got about 3-5 weeks to go before I become a grandpa... and I plan on being there if work allows me to..
