[poodle]

"I really must interrupt," the young man interrupted, "But unless I'm terribly mistaken, that poodle has just run off with your handbag." He pointed at the tail end of a blue-gray dog that trotted around the corner and out into the gardens.

"Oh, good grief," the lady cried in surprise as she turned to chase the canine.

The gentleman with whom she had been conversing prior this event now turned to the disruptive young man and grimaced. "She'll never find her way out of the garden, you know," he chided the young man. "My wife won't be pleased."

The young man nodded as he lit a cigarette. "I didn't like her very much and I doubt your wife did either. Shame about the poodle, though."

The gentleman chuckled quietly and turned to look out into the garden. "Remind me to send someone to collect the bodies in a few days, would you? Can't have bodies all over the yard."

The moral of this story is never bring handbags to parties of a certain sort.
