the zombification of motherhood*

so long since i posted! and we've only just had that indian meal i was talking about...

the last few weeks have been very slow and have kinda blurred. first of all, freddie got sore gums (we think - obviously he couldn't tell us, but he was around the right age for teething to start) - so he stopped sleeping through the night. in a big way. a week later we went to southampton for one of steve's conventions, and whilst there steve started with a mighty cough/cold that freddie and i picked up a week or so later, and i think must have mutated in the meantime because, whilst steve is now fine, freddie and i still have hacking coughs sent by the devil. i think the last time i had more than two hours sleep at a stretch was around about the time i last posted.

the convention was reasonably enjoyable - not really my thing, but it means being able to eat out all weekend :o) and of course, we got to show off the fredlet to steve's friends. it's a shame steve wasn't feeling well, but we did get to catch up with friends we only see rarely, which was very nice. the next one is august, so hopefully we won't have colds for that one!

things at work have been toddling on. i'm going to be teaching on this course, which is a good thing - it starts 19th april. we're running it as a pilot, but if it's successful hopefully it will be repeated annually, which will give me a bit of variety. we have our next induction this week, which will be the first time that i've been at work for a whole day since i went back, so we'll have to see how that goes. lucky old mum gets the pleasure of babysitting for that one!

freddie is doing well, apart from the cough. he's eating more now, including meat and fish, and has started trying to feed himself too, which is messy but highly entertaining. his favourites are still fruit and fromage frais, and his nemeses are vegetables - but too bad. things have got better since a friend suggested putting cheese in everything :o) we have a freezerful of oddly coloured food-ice cubes which get pressed into action in various combinations - last night was lamb, potato, butternut squash and, of course, cheese, which went down quite well.

today is my dad's birthday, so the parents are coming round for a birthday tea - it will be nice to fob freddie off on them for a little while for them to spend some time with their adorable grandson.

this weekend we're pigging out - the lent resolutions didn't go too well - i gave up crisps, chocolate and biscuits, and buckled for crisps around week 4, and gave in to chocolate on thursday. ah well. we're going to be hugely unhealthy for a week or so, and then start a new regime. we've already been picking out meals for the week in advance which has been working well, but we're going to make portions smaller, only allow one cake/pudding per week, and one treat (crisps, chocolate, biscuits, etc) per week. i lost 28lb in the two weeks after having freddie, and two thirds of that has gone back on - boo! guess it won't be long til i'm chasing a toddler around, though. also i suspect the lack of sleep hasn't helped, as i snack to make up the lost energy.

oh, and that indian restaurant stopped opening on mondays, so we finally went last friday. freddie tried a bit of pretty much everything, threw it up, and then tried it again. we have a classy boy :o)

reading is slow... halfway through Deathly Hallows.

*vegetarian zombies eat chocolate, for preference :o)
