erase errata
it's beautiful out and i would love love love to just hop on my bike & head out for miles but responsibility (and a sore right ankle) plants me home.
so i'll dodge ben franklin in other ways, & recap:
first week of classes: ended on a thursday night with beer and relaxing with colleagues, and then homeward to pack for a 2-night backpacking trip.
labor day weekend: c & i wandered some 22 miles through the allegheny national forest in northern PA. we saw lots of bear shit (complete with berries!), one snake, one frog, numerous chipmunks. we heard coyotes howling our second night out. and i was really grumpy. then we had the nicest waiter at an eat-n-park outside of franklin, during our usual posthike gorging on coffee and warm food. pictures might surface eventually.
tuesday last: i taught on slight sleep and returned home to find my father lounging in our backyard. he was staying with us 1 night on his way back to LA from PA. so c & i took him out for greek food.
thursday last: i had a beer with my new colleague, another young americanist.
friday: i did a 24-mile bike ride with the chair of my department before hitting the department potluck in the evening.
saturday: ocdfc won 5-1, upping our record to 4-0 this season, having scored 22 goals and given up 3. i got punched by a woman during the game, and that was pretty funny. we met t&e&l for the early-bird special at the press @ 4, and then c&i sleepily watched parts of high school musical 2 before going to bed by, oh, 10? that zac efron is a friggin' dreamboat. i needed such a low-key weekend.
and in the meantime: i registered for the king of the mountain race in PA (4 weeks!); i have a new laptop that's barely been used and set up, a wireless network to set up for the house, a new printer to install, a new monitor that needs to be bought; i've wrapped up 3 freelance projects in the last few weeks (the latest of which was sent off today!); and i need to start contemplating jobs beyond the 2007-2008 academic year.
