left of my summer freedom.

yesterday i almost ate a bee.
they cling tight to lips
at 21 miles per hour.
then i nearly rode past 4 deer
without even noticing them,
munching at 3 in the afternoon
in the middle of the city.

i have a book manuscript to edit.
i have syllabi to prepare.
i have housework to be done.
but i think i'll also shrug off
some of that, temporarily,
and head out on my bike later.
